As with the other similar question, I say no to government censorship, but I am very much for self-monitoring of behaviour and what is displayed, either in print or broadcast media.

There is something you can do if you find the images disturbing , it's called a remote , you switch channels. Most news casts in Canada now warn you in advance if something may be offensive is coming on.

However it's the media's job to present the story as it is , without censorship, unless it's a state secret. That's how people became against the Viet Nam seeing images of the war in their living rooms . That's why the Bush administration won't show the coffins or the repatriation of the soldiers coming home in body bags. Might make people less favourable to the war and any future wars.

I believe that the media is biased and does not present all of the facts, but...I also do not want the media controlled by the government. Though I don't like how our news is being presented nowdays and dislike the slant on the news, I do not want it controlled in any way shape or form. Freedom of the press and freedom of speech are two of the most important freedoms in this country. Like it or not, insensitive images are part of free speech. Just look away.

The media's job is to present the truth. If people are too sensitive to handle it then they should change the channel. The government has no business telling the media what and what not to show, other than making sure they are presenting honest, unbiased news. Once you let people decide for you what you should be allowed to see, you begin to let them control your thoughts. It's a slippery slope...

Remember a few months back when that CNN reporter was riding with the enemy and his camera man filmed one of ours (U.S.) getting shot by the enemy?
The reporter was with the enemy.
Since that time, I've felt it would be a good idea to start getting a handle on these people. I think they're dangerous.
They are educated beyond our personal safety.
I'd like to see a news blackout in the middle-east.
Clean things up over there as best we can and then let the candy-*** reporters go back in.

We can't really control the truth however we could perhaps see both sides of the story told without prejudicing the other so we can make up our own minds and not let the media make them up for us.
