I have a brand new Lexus IS, with leather interior. My good friend brought her friend from out of town along and I let the two both smoke cigarettes in the backseat. I am a smoker as well. In the morning, there was a cigarette burn in the leather, on the seat. My friend says she didn't do it and she's sure, which means the burn belongs to her friend. Do I make my friend pay for something her out of town friend did? Or is it my car therefore my responsibility to fix it? What should I do?

Suggestions please!! Thank you.

This is a case where you friend (or her friend) should pay for the damage, but you are going to get stuck with it! It tells you something about the quality of your friends if they damage your car and do not try to make it right!

Seeing as you have no proof (that will hold up in court) you are going to have to pay for the repair yourself. I would tell the "friends" that there is a new rule in your car. The rule is "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me" In other words they will need to find alternate transportation, because they are no longer welcome in your car!

You allowed them to smoke. It is your responsibility. Although, if they are a true friend, they will have no problem helping repair it.
