All moderates I have meet have intelligent answers to the problems our nation faces, yet offer no action. The Republicans and Democrats are not so great and have a tendency to spew off the same old tired lines over and over again and just get angry when you ask them some hard questions.

What would it take to get fellow moderates together and into action?

yet the dominant party members do go out and try to change things, (unfortunately for the worse.)

Correction, a Moderate party would not be chaotic, it would be flexible in its platform.

To change that attitude would be a challenge, be doing so would be a step forward.

As for how to over ride the dominant parties control, you do bring up a good point.

Since a moderate does have views that are balanced between the left and right, then it wouldn't be hard to win the nomination and then declare your self third party after winning the office, correct?

As a longtime Green Party activist I can tell you that to create a new party that is actually allowed to participate in the electoral process takes something akin to a revolution and almost a miracle.
The main problem, as other responders have noted, is that the two party henhouse is guarded by the two party foxes!
They literally control the electoral system and will not allow others to participate.
Through rules that dictate onerous petition requirements, including double signature gathering, huge number requirements, arbitrary determination of party qualification (something the NM Green Party is experiencing now), and the coup de grace, challenging your signatures as fraudulent, hiring their own experts to throw even valid signatures off, and THEN charging you as a candidate for the thousands they've spent unethically flushing your campaign down the toilet and depriving your constituency of their choice to vote for you!! They did this to Ralph Nader and Romanelli in PA to the tune of $80K each! The Reps are challenging a guy in CO who the Dems are propping up on the Rep primary. Be prepared for them to do it to you moderates. And don't even dream of being allowed to participate in the Debates. . . not even to clap from the audience.
It's all a game to them and they don't care what gets hurt, even if it's the democracy our guys and gals are dying trying to promote overseas while we whittle it away at home.

One thing is for certain. The politics in this country is controlled by the far left fundamentalist wingnuts and the far right wing wackos. That leave about 60% or so in the middle. But the choices that remain are limited.

Just look how the system runs. The major candidates and the two parties want to eliminate the lower ranked candidates from the debates. Why? Because they have nothing to lose and bring up issues the leading candidates want to avoid.

One solution is to vote against every incumbent. If the politicians start to see that they will no longer get the cushy little ride each election, they might start listening to the moderate voters.

Another important item is that you should vote for the person who best represents you even if it seems they have no chance. I read all the time on YA that people won't vote for this person or that person because they have no chance. If we don't change the way we vote (the lesser of two evils) we deserve what we get.

The libertarians are a more moderate party with views that are more in the middle than the other two parties. The big problem is that most voters feel that a vote that doesnt go to one of the major two parties is a wasted vote. I don't know how to change that attitude i wish i did.

There is not such thing as moderate unless you are undecided otherwise you take hard stands on both sides and not all people take the same stands. A moderate party would be quite chaotic.

When I say chaotic I mean to group people.

The Libertarians is considered the most moderate party but following the constitution is just common sense and the law.

There are many more than 2 political parties in the US -- and many of them are comparably moderate along the spectrum you name.

But the spectrum you name is also not the only spectrum -- there are many different ways to compare that having nothing to do with that particular dichotomy.

The fundamental problem is that those two major parties have seized control of the system, and jerrymandered the rules to ensure that those are the only two that will hold significant power. We need to get rid of both of them before we can start fixing the problems in govt.

Moderates are capitalists who know the truth about how their wealth is created and feel a bit badly about it along with members of the working class who fail to comprehend what's really happening to them.

That would be an impossible task. All of congress would have to be willing to make drastic changes in the Constitution to compensate for all of the mistakes that they themselves had made since this country was founded. So WTF kill all the lawyers!!!!!!!!!
