Sorry to burst some peoples bubble...of course they do. This is a scientific fact. From the time they are in the womb they are comforted by familiar sounds and voices. Comfort translates to love. A baby will vi for a mothers attention with everything from facial expressions to crying. That baby knows whom will respond to its needs. Fulfilling needs translates to comfort translates to love. Give them credit where credit is due. These little people are much smarter than most give them credit for. Same goes for grandparents and caretakers whom love the baby the baby feels safe and comfortable with people whom love them. The same responses are not afforded to a stranger.

I know that babies sense things. I have yet to figure out what exactly though. There can be 10 people around my little girl and she's smile and play with 9 of them but if the 10th gets near her she cries. I don't know why.
She usually smiles at EVERYONE who looks her way but randomly she'll cry uncontroblably when she sees a certain face.
She's 6 months old. I don't know what she knows and what she feels. She certainly loves to be with her mommy. But I have seen her have no reaction around people who I myself am very uneasy around.
Maybe if she spends a considerable amount of time with a person she can start distinguishing. But off the bat, unfortunately no, I don't think they know.

I believe they develop a strong attachment with those that do genuinely love them as a response.

i think it depends on the babies age, but for the most part I'd say no. Babies are innocent and naive, by the time they're older they'll know for sure. Good luck

Babies know who takes care of them, that is why they usually get so very attached to mom & dad. They learn love, and how to love.

Yes. But I don't think they're actually all that sentient.

I think they can tell who actually has affection for them, based on the tone of voice, gentleness of touch etc.
