This is off the top of my head:
The Illuminated ones i.e. Illuminati where founded by Adam Weishaupt in Bavaria in the year 1776. The where quasi-Masonic in organization and quickly had members that infiltrated most of the Strict Observance lodges in German and the Grand Orient Lodges in France, and the Law schools of Bavaria.
They where bent on a world wide revolution of a decidedly communistic bent--in fact one could argue that Marx was at least influenced by them.
The Bavarian Authorities disbanded the organization in --if memory serves--1785, but as with any secretive society it is not possible to tell if they actually went away or not.
As to the ruling the world canard: Since a good number of powerful people are Freemasons and since the doctrines of the Illuminati would have lived on hidden in the Mason Lodges--this does not mean that all Masons are Illuminati--it is possible that, yes they have a sort of influence on the decisions of the powerful. Much as the Jesuits or the Sovereign Military Order of Malta did, and to some extent still do.
As a side note:
Many people think that Freemasonry and the Illuminati are co-identical; however George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams--ALL certainly Freemasons of the Scotch rite--where adamantly against them. I think that the relationship between Freemasonry and Illuminatism should be viewed as a parasitic one, rather than an actual friendship matter. If you need more info ask.

It is a longstanding and un-proven theory that an elite society is poised in positions of power and influence in effort to usher in a "New Word Order". No one knows if they are really as omnipotent as the conspiracy theory goes, but the idea and evidence are fairly compelling.

This video is really creepy and yes you can actually do this with the bills. It really makes me wonder if there is more to our government and society than we realize. Read up on freemasonry and their influence on the US government's architecture and artistic designs. The questions always lead to more questions on this topic, but as Agent Mulder taught me..."The Truth is Out There".

With the advent of the European Union, rumor of the Ameri Union and the like, I'm inclined to think the prospect of world domination (and conspiracy to achieve that end does have substance.

Do you REALLY think that Bush's decisions are the result of an ancient and powerful organization? If they existed you'd think they'd have gotten good at it by this time.

No, they are a proven and confessed hoax. Conspiracy theorists will tell you otherwise but just that ought to convince you that it's false.
