multiply both top and bottom by the congugate of -7 + 2i, which is -7 - 2i

[(5-i) (-7-2i)] / [(-7+2i) (-7-2i)]

foil
(-35 - 10i + 7i - 2i^2) / (49 - 4i^2)

simplify
(-35 - 3i - 2i^2) / (49 - 4i^2)

i^2 = -1

(-35 - 3i -+2(-1) ) / (49 - 4(-1))

simplify
(-37 - 3i) / (53)

-37/53 - 3i/53
