There have been 371 games played in NHL history where no penalty was called. The last came in the 2001-2002 season.

268 of these games were played prior to the 1951-52 season (several new penalties were added in the early 50s).

4 playoff games have been played penalty free the last coming in 1973

The article you quoted was specific to the 2003-2004 season, and not to the NHL's entire history.

It has never happened in an NHL game.

However, one game had just two penalty minutes. The Islanders and Bruins faced of in a game where the lone penalty was given to Aaron Asham for "closing his hand on the puck" (of all penalties!)

The game ended in a 2-2 tie.

LITY - Of course, theres always the loophole.

Seems hard to imagine. Even more so in a 0 - 0 game. Did the teams just stay in their own end and shoot the puck out to centre?

Please clarify what type of penalty you're talking about - icing and off-sides are penalties. Are you specifically talking about games where no one went to the penalty box? That is a lot more likely.
