The show's creators simply wanted to move on (Jim Jinkins,the animator who created "Doug" and moved the character-and the show-from Nickelodeon to Disney, and voice actor Fred Newman had just started work on "PB and J Otter" for the-then new Playhouse Disney).
Though it was one of the original Nicktoons,"Doug" switched over to Disney after 1996 for another two seasons worth of shows (due to Jim Jinkins' falling out with Nickelodeon;he took the rights to "Doug" with him to Disney).
