We had to wear uniforms in high school and they were all the same length. They were awful. We also had to wear our hair neatly combed and pulled back. We waited until we got home to wear the short skirts and let our hair loose.

A friend of mine was suspended because his hair touched his collar. I was suspended because I came to school in pants and refused to wear a skirt when it was -25 C. Thats 25 degrees below freezing FYI. We had to stand out in the weather to catch a bus, that was always cold, ride for 45 minutes on this cold bus to get to school, and my sister ALWAYS had chillblains, and I said ta hell with it, I'm not wearing a skirt, let the Principal stand out in the freezing cold in a skirt and see how he likes it.
And after half the girls in school got behind me, we were allowed to wear pants during the winter IF we wore them under a skirt, CAN YOU IMAGINE? But the first slightly warm day and we were ordered back into skirts.
A lot about the good ole days just really sucked -- we wore short skirts and a friend of mine was sent home because hers was too short. I have long legs and a short body so skirts that were ok on me didnt even cover her butt, :-)

Yes, that happened to me several times. I am not the kind of girl who normally wears short skirts or shorts, but I guess I just wasn't aware of how short they really were. I was so embarrassed. I was a cheerleader in school also. I was even told that my cheerleading skirt was too short. They were treating me like it was my fault. Go figure! Thank God I am out of high school. I don't miss it at all.

I never was, I'm almost 5'2 and for some reason the same length skirt doesn't' seem as short on someone who isn't to tall. My sister however was sent home in jr. high for her skirt being to short, she's much taller than I am. Her skirt was actually no farther above the knee than the other girls though. My mom let the principal know this in no uncertain terms when she went to the school.

When I was in high school, the style was long skirts - about 4 inches above the ankles...usually hip-pleated and plaid... Rolled down bobby-sox and white buck shoes - and a bat-wing sweater with or without a dicky completed the outfit.
Lots of "crinolins" under full skirts - ballerina length, was for parties and dancing. Ballerina slippers or Baby Jane shoes completed that...along with a crisply startched short sleeve shirt with the collar turned up in back and a scarf tied around your neck - or around your pony-tail.
Hanging out meant boys Levis (they didn't make "jeans" for women and they didn't call them "jeans"...they were Levis.). Levis were paired with an old flannel shirt that belonged to your father or other adult male relative - or borrowed from your special boyfriend.
The guys wore "ducktail" haircuts - like Fonzy on Happy Days. And parents HATED it. The hair was long, brushed back and loaded with Brylcreme.

Always!!!!! I went to an all girls Catholic High School and we wore uniforms. We used to roll up our skirts at the waistband,
and button up our school sweaters that we wore over our blouses, so the teacher could not see that we had rolled up our skirts. We were always getting yelled at by the Nuns, that our skirts were too short. But of course that was the style then in the early 60's, and that did not stop us.

When I was at school, we WERE NOT allowed to wear our skirts or dresses more than one inch above our knees. That was an absolute. Anyone who tried to break that rule was sent home immediately to change.
Of course, those were the days when the girls WERE NOT allowed to wear slacks AT ALL. And the boys were not allowed to wear blue jeans.
Forget any form of long hair. If you were a boy, and it was sitting on your face at all (ala Beatles style) you were told to slick it back. And anything below the collars was just not allowed period.
It wasn't until after I had already graduated from high school that those rules were relaxed.

Never had that problem. Our skirts were so long in the 50's . they got a little shorter in the early sixties but nothing to complain about. I remember when I went into nursing training the rule was hems no shorter than15inches from the floor. Of course there are always some that test the rules but they had to leave the floor and change into a regulation length uniform.

Now I am a high school student.I am not facing this problem as there is a rule in our school that we should wear the skirt which exceeds our knees and we should plate our hair up with the help of ribbon and I follow.

No. I have this freckle a little above my rt knee and never wore skirts shorter than that because when I sat down the skirt would go up a bit. I didn't want to look indecent.
