the British were controlling everything pretty much, and they'd put a new tax on tea. so lots of people here in the colonies decided to boycott buying tea. a group got together and decided to dump all the tea from the boat into the ocean. it was just part of rebelling against Britain.

Colonial Americans were getting taxed by farway England.Tea was one of the items heavily taxed.

They didn't like it, didn't have any say in the matter, and thought it was unfair.

A bunch of them decided to protest. They got dressed up as Indians (Native Americans) and dumped a bunch of tea off a ship moored in the Boston harbor.

Eventually, protests turned into the American Revolution, and a new country was born.

Anyway, maybe that's why Americans drink coffee more than tea.

The Boston Tea Party was an act of protest by the American colonists against Great Britain in which they destroyed many crates of tea bricks on ships in Boston Harbor. The incident, which took place on Thursday, December 16, 1773, has been seen as helping to spark the American Revolution.

This act brought criticism from both colonial and British officials. For instance, Benjamin Franklin stated that the destroyed tea must be repaid, and he offered to repay with his own money.[citation needed] The British government responded by closing the port of Boston and put in place other laws that were known as the "Intolerable Acts," also called the Coercive Acts, or Punitive Acts. However, a number of colonists were inspired to carry out similar acts, such as the burning of the Peggy Stewart. The Boston Tea Party eventually proved to be one of the many causes that led to the American Revolution. At the very least, the Boston Tea Party and the reaction that followed served to rally support for revolutionaries in the thirteen colonies who were eventually successful in their fight for independence.

Many colonists, in Boston and elsewhere in the country, pledged to abstain from tea drinking as a protest, turning instead to "Balsamic hyperion" (made from raspberry leaves), other herbal infusions and coffee. This social protest movement away from tea drinking was not, however, long-lived.

The Sons of Liberty were most likely the ones who staged the Boston Tea Party. They did so in protest of the Tea Act, passed by Parliament in 1773. The result was increased tensions between the colonies and Britain, and the passage of the Intolerable Acts.

King George put the tax on the tea to punish the colonies, so some of the revolted and threw a lot of tea into the Atlantic Ocean, that was one of the building blocks for the American Revolution

The British were taxing the United States unfairly on goods being imported. It just so happened that the ship that was boarded in protest was a ship carrying tea. The tea (could have been any other merchandise) was thrown into the harbor in protest of the tax.... just to say "take back your damn tea, we'll do without rather than pay these high taxes"

The British government passed the Tea Act on the American colonists. This angered them and caused a group called the "Sons of Liberty" led by Samuel Adams, to dump tea out of their boat. So basically, it pissed of the British. The British were mad and closed the Boston ports. They also created the "Intolerable Acts" which included having to provide housing for soldiers.
