external HD to the computer. Is the problem from the PC?

there is no problem with your pc. it just not recognize the hardware you installed. install driver of that hardware so that your pc will recognize it. you may need to re-start your pc.

Take his advice plug in your ipod and restart your computer and your computer will recognize your ipod.
