I'm not sure he has been gay from the beginning. I think JK maybe just recently decided this. Either way, this is ging to have both negative and possitve effects on sales. Some parents aren't going to want their kids reading them, and then people who are all for gay rights are going to read them. I think I'm just going to try and forget that she said anything about it. I liked the series before she made this little anouncement, therefor I'm going to pretend that she never said it. I don't want you to go thinking the wrong way about me; i have nothing against gays, I'm just kind of angry that she'd bring this into a childrens book.

My husband and that i are agnostics yet we don't instruct our young little ones to be like us. it relatively is our very own own decision, we enable them to improve their own while it comprises faith and faith. They bypass to faculties with Christian residing as between the topics, their instructors are Christian. in addition they love Harry Potter. I make it a factor to play up the values the tale is composed of like unconditional love, friendship, tolerance, appreciate, sacrifice and often being solid. i think that it relatively would not rely if God or the church is being glossed over in the books as numerous the fundamentalists declare. What concerns is the series has morals and valuable values the youngsters can study. the certainty that that's approximately witches and wizards would not make it diverse from Snow White, Cinderella, Rapunzel, snoozing elegance, The Wizard of ozor Alice in Wonderland. The Harry Potter series instruct extra values and Christian insights than in simple terms about all those classics prepare. i think the present ban on Harry Potter might ultimately be lifted as quickly as the hoopla and the hype surrounding it would have died down. And each and every of the readers (old and youthful alike) do no longer develop into devil worshipping, witchcraft enthusiasts. Your daughter ought to nevertheless share Harry Potter together with her chum whether the latter isn't allowed to study the books or watch the flicks. You did no longer say if telling her chum touching directly to the books might make her mothers and dads offended. i'm hoping it would not for the reason which will certainly be unhappy.

How would it encourage kids to read it? Kids will read Harry Potter for it's action and adventure - not just because there WAS a gay person in it.

There is no mention in the book itself about Dumbledore being gay, and there's certainly no gay sex in the book, so people really need to chill out. It's a wonderful book for kids.

I don't think so. I'm not quite ready to believe Dumbledore was gay, in the complete sense of that word. Kids aren't going to be able to pick that up anyway, and neither did I! Although, I must confess, I always felt there was a much darker side to Dumbledore than what was revealed in the books, and I assumed this part of his personality was too sensitive to depict.

Personally, I think Rowling's having a bit of fun. Besides, why didn't she reveal this long before now? It was never even rumored! I don't truly think Dumbledore's really gay, just like the first poster here said - there's no mention of it in the books and that's all people are going to have access to.

Any series that attracted the number of young readers that Harry Potter did is fine by me - I don't care if every character in it is gay.

hahahahahahahaha. it has no relvevance to the story. in case you hadn't noticed the fact that dumbledore is gay has nothing to do with the detruction of Lord Voldemort. the book is not about the sexual orientation of the characters it about a battle of good vs. evil. so in any case its worthless to get all upset about it. the books havent changed have they? no.
and anyway gay people are just regular people. they fall in love just like anyone else.

Heck no!

We should burn the book right away!

Goodness forbid that children might be exposed to such a revolutionary concept as the fact that who someone is attracted to isn't the sole definition of their being, or that someone who was *gasp* gay could be wise, caring, heroic and a good role-model.

If we let that type of thing go on, next thing you know children could learn to think for themselves. How horrible!

It makes no difference to the book, because there is no mention of Dumbledore liking wizards instead of witches.
