Does Play Station 2 games also play on Play Station 3?

I heard about Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming out on Play Station 3. Please tell me! I'm a K.H. fan.

Yes PS2 games will play on the PS3.
KH3 is coming out on PS3 but not PS2.

I've heard MOST ps2 games play on the ps3 and that a few of the newer versions of the counsel have trouble playing a handful of them.

I heard it was because the newer ps3 emulate the ps2 hardware, will older counsels actually had ps2 hardware.
