I don't even know where to start...
Today's Topic:John Cena
I'll be the first to tell You I don't like the Guy's gimmick but
How can You all say He can't wrestle?
I don't understand it. The guy was trained by Sting for one thing.
Any of ya'll remember the "Prototype" gimmick?
Which big name wrestlers, pray tell, DON'T rely on their "5 moves of doom"?
What is just soo different about Hogan or Lawler or Warrior or HBK etc etc etc
Even the Technically astounding Bret Hart used the same basic move set in most of his matches.
Why isn't everybody up their ----- with a microscope?
You don't expect a wrestler to use their bread and butter?
I can't remember the last time I saw anybody up in here say...
"If I see one more stinger splash I think I'll vomit!"
Or some such.
Besides His long title run (I didn't like that either) can somebody give Me one good reason for all this hate besides
He Can't Wrestle? or Teenage Girls?
Don't worry I want some feedback I won't get offended

First off: Lots of Top Stars rely on a very limited set of doomish moves. Even Kane. (Sit up, sidewalk slam, flying clothesline, chokeslam, in that order)

But Kane has an astounding array of other moves.
John Cena's 5 moves of doom make up 84% of his offence. The other 16% is punches.

The "Can't wrestling" kind of fits into that category...

The teenage girl thing makes The Crock's blood boil!

Doesn't it drive YOU crazy when someone posts something like

"I hate Randy Orton and I love John Cena cuz hes like so hot! (heart)"
???

"Oh, I know! I'll change my name to something clever like 'Cena's Wifey'! That will set me apart from all the other fans!"

The amount of people that can make a competent anti-Cena argument and just doesn't spout the same old "only has 5 moves" reasoning is slim. They don't even mention some of bigger faults - his poor long-term selling, his inability to produce a good short match, his somewhat awkward execution, etc. In my mind, the guy's a solid wrestler. He's not the best, but is amazing in the WWE main event style, which means his presence alone gives the match a more epic feel, and he can tell a good in-ring story and get over with only a few moves, like a lesser version the Rock, Foley & post-inury Austin. The problem is that the long title reign, especially after the short title reigns fans were accustomed to in the Attitude Era, the bandwagon effect, and the fact that most wrestling fans are never happy with the product pretty much gives Cena so much boos. In fact, I'd wager that most people hate how Cena was booked, yet take it out on him.

Cena has his faults, but damn, it's hard to find someone who can make a smart argument against him. I've seen a few good ones, but I've seen a lot more that were poor and lacked anything that resembled a good argument.

Hey Darth Maul.
It's strange I answered a question last night similar to this one about Cena. And the people who can make a decent argument are near non-existent.
But for the sake of argument (though I hate doing this), I will defend these "haters" and play Devil's Advocate:

-His execution of moves is not very well. Though he is still new, Cena's been in the WWE since 2002 and wrestling before that (2000, I believe), but messes up executing of moves like the "Throwback" and the Spinout Powerbomb. The "Five Knuckle Shuffle" is like the People Elbow, as it is for show, and it still is executed poorly. The STFU is more like a chokehold

-He is supposed to be a World Champion, so he should be able to lead people through parts of matches. However, he does not have that ability at all. You can see when he faces people like Undertaker and Shawn Michaels and then see a drasic difference against people like Mr. Kennedy, Carlito, and even Orton. He does a lot of simple mat moves poorly, even in PPV matches.

-His long title run is the result of WWE not creating many big main-event stars out of the newer guys. Look what happened when main-eventers began to get injured: John Cena had to hold the title LONGER, resulting in heat that could've been avoided. Plus, the ADD infested society we live in cannot handle seeing a guy like Cena be champion for 6+ months anymore. It's not convincing with their travel schedule and the amount of matches a WWE wrestler has a week, that he'd be a champion with a boxer's reign.

Now that I'm done....
And more annoyed of Cena questions...

Great mic skills, but a very limited move set he uses over and over and over and over, always making the miraculous comeback to win the match. Hmm, we talking about John Cena or Hulk Hogan? Hogan was WWF champ for most of the 80's but he gets a fraction of the bitching Cena gets. Yeah, Hogan had his detractors but nothing like Cena has. The Cena-Lovers are far less annoying than the Cena-Haters. The Cena-Lovers will at least give you a reason why they love him (he's handsome, he's a great wrestler, he smells good, hell, anything, but at least it's a reason!) The vast majority (but not all) of the Cena-Haters have their needles stuck in a groove, "cena sux". They all agree that "cena sux" but they don't seem to have a reason as to WHY he "sux". "He's been champ too long" is not a reason because Cena does not make that call. He does the job he's been given and you can't fault a man for doing his job. "He only uses the same 5 moves" would be a valid reason but, as some of you have pointed out, he knows far more than that. Hulk Hogan, when he wrestled in Japan, actually WRESTLED; in the States, after the "hulking up" shtick and the finger waving, it was the legendary "punch punch punch boot to the face leg drop pin", match after match after match. And the fans ate it up. Aha! thinks Vince, I have found the formula. This won't work on the really good wrestlers (Hart, Benoit, Guerrero, etc.) but I can make a mint with the average wrestlers (Hogan, Austin, The Rock, and...John Cena) by just finding the right combination of a few moves and marketing the hell out of the character! My point being, like Hogan, maybe Cena is being told by Vince or whoever to wrestle a certain way, don't get cute, just do the moves, and marketing will take care of the rest.

Maybe the reason there are so many Cena-Haters is because it's "fashionable" to hate Cena. Most people are trend-followers, very few are trend-setters. They post anti-Cena statements (usually misspelled) because they know they'll get "thumbs up" from other Cena-Haters.

I am one of the rare Cena-In Betweeners. He's not my favorite but I don't hate him; I never had a problem with his title reign (or the length of that reign) but I'm not crushed that he's not the champ right now. Do I miss him? Yeah, he was a big star and I liked his promos. Is his absence keeping me awake at nights? Nope. I hope he comes back, but if he decides to do other things, I'll survive.

I honestly do not understand all this hatred toward one man who has not gone on a murderous rampage or blew up a building full of people. John Cena is a genuine "good guy", a thorough professional, a great ambassador for the WWE to other media, a model employee in a company wracked with scandal, and a very credible representative for the WWE (as their "champion").

But the saddest thing of them all is the reaction of a large part of the users here in this section who "celebrated" his injury. Some said it was "the greatest day of my life", others said they were going to have a party to celebrate, but the most disgusting of them all, one pathetic loser even wrote, "he should've died". That made me ashamed to even be associated with this section...

Good Point Darth,
it is a great topic for discussion and i'm lovin' it...

To begin with,i have never told that John Cena can't wrestle!I totally with people who saying that Vince McMahon must fire Cena and that he is not even good for a jobber(Cena Haters). However,i don't either agree with people who saying that Cena is the best champion ever. They are saying that he is better than The Undertaker, better than Bret Hart better than ...e.t.c(Cena lovers).I disagree also with the fact that some people saying that John Cena fans are little kids.I used to be a Cena fan since early 2006 and i was 16 to 17(not big Cena fan,but i used to support him slightly!)..
Although,he is that damn much overrated..cause ok maybe has that prototype gimmick but he can give us more.He is not that much untalented and he proved that to us back in the 2002-2005 days which he had a good gimmick,he used to seel more moves and being a good heel!
Nowadays(before the injury),he is not that good for WWE Champion, and in my eyes he is by far less talented from HBK or Breat Hart e.t.c..It is better to see a variation of moves in matches but to watch the same and the same every time. That sometimes tires the wrestling fan, becoming predictable and boring..And there is not that much difference between him and Hogan or Lawler which had no huge variation in the moves part..especially Hogan.
He has good mic skills..no doubt about it,but he needs to improve a lot as a wrestler to earn my admiration for his in ring skills! There are way more talented wrestlers like Kennedy,HHH,HBK,M.V.P,CM Punk.Randy Orton and the list continues who have been waiting for opportunities!!
Fortunately for him,i have to admit that i respect him very much for his outside attitude, cause with all of his success he could easily had become arrogant and jack@ss..though he didn't.He has a contribution for the business and of course i repsect also the fact that he is trvalling 350 days per year away from his family to bust his @ss just to entertain us(if he can do!!)..

To sum up,i respect him for his outside attitude,he has good mic skills but he needs to impove drastically to become a deserved main eventer!!
It's not the same for us to see Bret Hart with thousand moves to wrestle and now seeing Cena with a few moves...

Sorry for the big answer(DAMN!that was damn! big!!)..but i wanted to express my opinion...
You wanted a discussion??You got it Darth!!!!lol

I am a John Cena fan and a Sting fan, I think Wrestlers go with what brought them to the dance. They use the moves that got them where they are. Like they say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

To be straightforward with you i do in comparison to Eric Bischoff being in TNA Wrestling. they're hurting TNA and making it worser with them working the instruct. Bischoff has constantly been a prick through fact the ninety's while he fired between the biggest superstars in wrestling Steve Austin by potential of a telephone call that became a great mistake look the call he made for himself. and that they are making the comparable errors they made in WCW underutilized expertise they're holding the greater youthful wrestlers down in TNA Wrestling. i think of TNA Wrestling became effective the way it became in the previous Hogan and Bischoff have been given there to run the instruct and that i think of they're making a great mistake for shifting TNA completely to Monday Nights to objective and compete with WWE interior the scores particular they'll provide them opposition interior the top it is going to likely be WWE triumphing interior the scores through their huge fan base. Hulk Hogan & Eric Bischoff Regime -Scott Steiner released -Bobby Lashley Fired from TNA - Beer money Inc. is gloomy with TNA -amazing Kong & Alisa Flash long previous from TNA
