I think the dem lead Congress is doing a wonderful job. If they keep it up the Republicans should easily be able to win back their lost seats and may be able to actually gain some.

The majority of the people don't understand that just because we have a narrow majority, that doesn't mean that everything they want will happen.
We have a VERY narrow majority. So when the Dems try to pass the legislation that they campaigned on, the president vetos and we don't have the 2/3 majority to override. So the people get frustrated.
We have the majority, but it's still a Republican congress. Any Dem initiative can be vetoed with no hope of an override vote.

The statistics is inaccurate -- if you look at the details, you get very different numbers for how much approval the Republicans in Congress have versus how much the Democrats in Congress have -- and those are very different than the aggregate total.
The bottom line -- Republicans hate Democratic leaders on general principle, and Democrats are annoyed with the Democratic leaders because the elected officials are not doing what the people who elected them wanted -- got the US out of Iraq and stopped Bush -- election polls showed those as the two major issues for Democratic voters.
Democrats hate Republican politicians on general principles, and Republicans are annoyed that Congress isn't controlled by Republicans anymore.
Net result -- nobody is happy with the result -- half because they are mad at what the other party is doing, and half because they don't like what their own party is doing now.

You have a totally different dynamic between 'congress' and individual congress critters. Most people have never expressed much sympathy for 'congess' or even their state legislature. As Mark Twain once said, "...Congress is in session; no man's money is safe!" However, if asked, most people thing THEIR congress critter is a mighty fine fella'....'ol Joe sure 'nuff brings home the bacon...or the pork as the case may be! Right now the right wing talk show bozos are really hiting this '11 percent' thing as hard as they can as, at least to them, it gives Bush's horrible poll numbers some balance. The democrats do have a slight majority, but there are plenty of democrats in congress that are inclined to vote with the republicans on a host of issues so their 'majority' isn't really all that solid. 'Ya gotta' kinda' read between the lines on these things....right wing radio and FOX isn't commited to telling these stories in contexts as that's not the job of propaganda.

You need to understand that Republicans and Democrats sleep in the same bed. And all because it's "Democrats" who supposedly control the Congress, doesn't mean there aren't any Republicans in the Congress.
So, if you want me to explain why the RepuDemo Congress has such a low approval rating, it's because they a have a single agenda.
EDIT: Charbatch, you mean that even though G gave polls to back up his answer, it's not credible and even better than Bud B, who you said gave the most sane answer?
Are you saying that you are close minded to the very facts that stare you in the face?
EDIT: PNAC Penelope is just as blind as you are because she won't face up to the facts either.
EDIT: Tanzer36 brings up a good point as well.

The dem congress isn't a "DEM CONGRESS". they don't enough of a majority to carry out a 2/3 vote to bypass a veto, or to ignore Republican obstructionists. Congress right now, is actually pretty balanced, something people, like you don't understand, because your idea of balanced, is FOX news.
the current poor ratings of congress, is due to the fact that America is realizing they allowed far too many republicans to keep their seats, while waking up and realizing the fact that the previous republican dominated congress are who voted NAY on improving airline security, prior to September 11th.
You can try tp spin it any way you want, but republican portion of congress has a far lower approval than congress as a whole.
guess what that means??
It means many people who disprove of our current congress disproves because republican obstructionists, and a idiot president won't let them do what we elected them for.

I'm a liberal, and I disapprove of the congress. I disapprove not because they are for the wrong policies, but because they are not trying hard enough to end the war. If they ended the war, I'd love them... but they're not doing enough. If you look at the other polls, people still trust the democrats more with congress if an election was held today.
Part of the people who disapprove are republicans, the rest are angry because the war hasn't ended yet. While I'm angry with congress, voting in republicans is my worst nightmare. What we need is a 60-vote majority so the war can end.

The 110th Congress is 53.6% Dem and 46.4% Republican. So, the American people are unhappy with Congress as a whole, R and D.
However, only ~23% support Bush. So 77% of the people dislike 100% Bush!!!!

Kind of foolish to blame a party that has held congress for less than two years for all the trouble an other party created over the past 20.
While I am not part of that 11% I am also not a part of the 5% who support the gang of thieves in the White House, including their mentally and morally challenged leader big W.

Better build your shelter 'cause 2008 is going to be a Republicant nightmare, and you can thank George for destroying your party, it's all over but the crying. Hilary Clinton, Commander-in-Chief, has a nice ring to it.

They have passed the things they said they would, with the exceptions of the veto's and we know who did that. With all the Republicans that have announced retirement, the Democratic should have enough to over ride the veto's and get this country moving again.( I ownder why they (Rep.) are leaving?)
