I have a laptop that came with Vista, but I didn't like it so I downgraded (upgraded IMO) to XP. The laptop has a Core 2 Duo T7300, which is 2.0ghz. However, when I go into the system console in the control panel, under "Computer", it says:

Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo CPU
T7300@ 2.00ghz
1.18ghz, 2.00gb of RAM

Shouldn't that second clock speed be 2.0ghz as well? It's dual core, so shouldn't both speeds be the same?

If someone has the same processor on Vista, could you see what it says in your system console? Or does anyone know?

I don't feel comfortable losing 800mhz of power.

You're not actually losing any power, your processor just has a technology that Intel calls "SpeedStep", which clocks the processor down to a slower rate when the system isn't under load to conserve energy, and then steps the speed back up to full when the system is under load. If you want to be running at full speed all the time, you can change this behavior in the "Power Options" tab in the Control Panel.

Thats beacuse the CPU dropped the voltage/speed as part of energy saving, it will revert to full when theres needs for the extra power.

The top one states the true speed of CPU
second display the current speed.
