My high school theater program offers about 7 different shows this year, and three have already passed. I love to act, but when audition time comes, I can't seem to impress the director enough. I always have a hard time finding myself in auditions and I never really know what they really want out of the audition. It's been such a long time since I've gotten to oppurtunity to be on stage and show people what I can do and I would love to be on stage again. I would really appreciate any tips and/or suggestions anyone can give. Thanks!

1. Hang around the directors a lot, if they know you, they are more likely to cast you.

2. Study up really well on all the shows you can audition for.

3. Have 2 really solid monologues (comedic and dramatic).

Look here for monologues:

4. Have really developed characters.
Here are Uta Hagen's 9 Steps:

. Who am I?

2. What are the circumstances?

(time, location, surroundings, immediate circumstances)

3. What are my relationships to the people, circumstances, place, and objects around me?

4. What do I want? (objective, need)

5. What is my obstacle? (what is in the way)

6. What do I do to get what I want? (actions)

-Now have some really good songs you can sing, and you should be prepared!

Then run your audition material a lot, and for audiences, so you can become more comfortable!

Good luck, I really hope you get cast!

Starting actors seem to rush their lines. Learn to breathe in a way that pauses the dialog. Don't trail off at the end, pop those t's. Director's look for actors that can deliver the goods. Someone with confidence as well as talent. Than somehow sneak in the unexpected. Do a flip or belt out a long note or pick up a prop and dance with it. But do it naturally.

well, the only way to get better at auditions is to keep auditioning, directors will notice how often your showing up and remember you, the average actor auditions thirty times before they actually get something. just remember, the directors WANT you to do well, they're not against you, they WANT to find their lead, so show them what you've got, practice in front of peers to shake off nerves, yes it's embarrassing, but who are you trying to impress, your friends or the directors?

First, I would volunteer to prompt or to be assistant to the director or on stage crew. These things will make you part of the group. Then you can learn how to audition by reading my profile and writing to my aol addresss where I teach acting for free
