Ok well my sister found out about 3 weeks ago that she was pregnant and they scheduled her for an ultrasound the next week, we went to her ultrasound and they acted kind of fishy but just told her to come back the week after, so we went to her appointment on Thursday and they tell her that the baby is dead. They said it has not grown any since the week before and the sac is flattening out so he said that he would just wait and see if she will pass it on her own, he still wants to see her once a week until she passes it but she has not had a period since Junce 2nd and has not passed it yet so my question is: is it safe to leave a dead fetus inside your body and if so for how long? And why did they not go ahead and do the D&C already why are they waiting hoping that she will miscarry the fetus....btw...the fetus was 6 weeks when it stopped growing.

well she always had irregular periods so she never thought to take a pregnancy test, she was going in for birth control to regulate them again and that is when she found out that she was pregnant!

I would insist on a D&C! The breakdown of tissue in her womb could cause infection. And she needs to have closure and move on with her healing. The mental anguish must be overwhelming.
If this doctor won't cooperate, it is time to find a new doctor! My child died at 28 weeks and they allowed 2 weeks for my body to go into labor on it's own. They had to induce labor as my body did not cooperate.

It's perfectly safe as long as she makes sure she doesn't run a fever, feel faint, or loose a lot of blood.

Chances are a 6 week old fetus will just be reabsorbed by the body, there may not even be any bleeding.

They didn't do a D&C because a D&C is risky. Only in the US is a D&C standard procedure for miscarriage. In most of the rest of the world they use watchful waiting because it is far, far safer.

They should of taken the fetus out already. My friends baby stopped growing at 16 weeks and a week later they went in and took the baby out. Go see a different doctor!

If her last period was June 2nd, then that would make her 20 weeks pregnant. If the baby stopped growing 14 weeks ago it would have been caught, and if she hadn't passed it they would have done a D&C. This doesn't make sense, the dates must be off.

It should be fine. If it was a big deal to leave it the doctor would take care of it. That's why they want to monitor her every week. The doc probably just doesn't want to subject her to a D&C unless its really necessary. Her body will know its not living and pass it on its own. Sorry to hear about that! Sad.

She needs to get a D&C. If the doctor has not ordered this, than she needs a new doctor. It has been way to long to have this baby inside of her, it may cause complications with her health.
