I have a ATI, x600 radeon, its ddr 256 mb !
wanna upgrade, can i get a DDR3 512 mb graphics card?

But i am worried about this DDR thing, would my motherboard support ddr3 ??

This is my motherboard:

Manufacturer: Asus
Motherboard Name: PTGD-LA
HP/Compaq motherboard name: Puffer2-UL8E

trying to get
Asus GeForce 8800 GTX HTDP 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Note: These cards require PCI-E x16 slots, they will not function in a x8 slot so for SLi you need dual x16 mainboard. Finally 500W minimum for PSU and 600W+ is recommended

what does that mean ?

thanks

There appears to be some confusion with posts above. ASUS PTGD-LA uses i915 chipset that SUPPORTS PCIe. Puffer2-UL8E supports x16 PCIe:

It is the PTGD1-LA (Goldfish) that does not have any graphics expansion slot, just PCI slots.

The 8800GTX is a powerful graphics card that draws up to 11 amps on the +12V rail of the power supply. You would need a power supply that has at least 30 amperes output on the +12V rail.
The 8800GTX could also be too powerful that it could just be bottlenecked by your setup. Your motherboard only supports 800mhz fsb and does not support the high performance Core2 Duo processors. Consider the 8800GTS or the 8800GT which is about to be released shortly.

Forget about SLI, your motherboard does not support it.

It means that if your computer has to have a PCI-Express graphics slot for video cards, not AGP. I think you can check this by viewing the display properties by right clicking on your desktop. You also need a newer power supply to run the card, which you probably have if your current card is PCI-Express.

In regards the whole DDR3 thing, this has nothing to do with your motherboard. The DDR3 RAM is only accessible to the video card, so don't worry about that.

Hope that helps!

ok your mobo (motherboard) will not support this card as it has no pci-e slots of any kind only pci (a very big diference)
the psu stands for power supply unit i would guess you probably need to upgrade that also to get that card to work (assuming you upgraded your mobo) the card is pci-e x16
another point to note is the 8800 is physically a very big card and as you have a micro atx booard may not fit oinside your case.

your motherboard does not support a PCI-E x16 card, so you can either buy a new one or a different video card.

The PSU is the power supply unit, it provides power to your computer. If it does not give enough power, your comp will not run. 500W minimum means you need a psu with at least 500 watts of power output

Yeah... from a quick look at ur mobo it looks like it wount support GTX. So, I suggest u upgrade ur mobo 1st. As far as power supply, it means that you need 500w PSU for GTX to work. Mine didnt run good on 485w PSU, so I had to upgrade to 650.
