Excellent question to ask the Iraqis. I know my information is based on just what soldiers who are or have been there say but they tell me the answer is YES.

Most of the above answers make the proper assumption, on the surface.
My thoughts are that, in order for THE NEW WORLD ORDER to function, as envisioned by Their Future and Present Leaders, there must be the elimination of 'radical forces' which will not 'toe the line' for what ever reasons.
Soooo, the 'Iraqi' type mentality, must be eliminated. Then like we Americans will be, the 'Political "brains" ' can simply hand over the control, for their(the politicians) percentage of the 'take'.
BTW With your continuing to ask VERY pertinent questions, such as this and your others, in the past you would have been asked to join some 'think' tanks. LOL

This is a very interesting question. America may think that the world shares its vision yet it's taken quite a few years for Americans to feel the way they do. Iraqis have lived in their skins for thousands of years and to crush a civilization and force feed them a certain type of governing is probably real alien for them. What proof do they have that the American style of government is the best?

The Bush administration doesn't care what Iraqis want. It has no intention of bringing democracy to Iraq; nor does it intend to establish peace in the Middle East. The Bushites are not even interested in defending our borders against some 'terrorist' from some unknown 'evil empire'.
We unconstitutionally, illegally, immorally, unjustifiably attacked another sovereign nation that in no way threatened, provoked or attacked the United States, and we did it for three really lame reasons:
1) The Bush family had a personal vendetta against Saddam Hussein ever since Desert Storm, and was determined to 'finish the job' that George H.W. Bush failed to get done in 1991;
2) Dick Cheney covets all that OIL swimming underneath Iraq's sands and is intent on acquiring rights to all of it. That's why the number-one non-military 'benchmark' established by the Bushites is to force the Iraqi Parliament to surrender two -thirds of its OIL fields to private, foreign companies like Exxon-Mobil who then literally can STEAL all of Iraq's OIL - that nation's most precious and valuable economic resource;
3) The giant U.S. military-industrial complex needed to boost its profits after years of peace, something Republican Dwight D. Eisenhower warned us about. After World War II, industrialists realized how profitable 'war' could be, so all the politicians were bought off, lobbyists were hired, and special interest groups were formed to encourage and promote more 'war'. Thus, the U.S. was dragged into the Korean Conflict; the Cuban Missile Crisis; the Cold War; Vietnam and Desert Storm - none of which were officially declared by Congress as required in our Constitution. But the wealthy elitists and industrialists made BILLIONS, thanks to the gullibility of the American taxpayers who believed killing other people was the 'right' thing to do.
We will NOT leave Iraq for decades - perhaps generations - until all the OIL is sucked from that land's sands. THAT'S WHY we're building the largest embassy in the world on a 104-acre site in downtown Baghdad overlooking the 'new' Iraqi puppet government installed by the Bush administration. THAT'S WHY Halliburton is building fourteen (yes - 14!) new permanent U.S. military bases in Iraq.
George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld and all their war-mongering friends deserve a special OIL-soaked, blood-stained corner of Hell where they rot eternally, along with:
* 535 members of the most arrogant, incompetent, evil, contemptible, cowardly, corrupt Republican-led Congress in history that stood by and let Bush run rip shod over our Constitution
-AND-
* 535 members of the most arrogant, incompetent, evil, contemptible, cowardly, corrupt Democratic-led Congress in history that promised to end this 'war' if elected, and - to date - has done nothing to keep that promise.
MAY GOD DAMN THEM ALL!!! -RKO- 10/20/07

Democracy is a very Western concept rooted in the Westphalian system and the Enlightenment. There can be a similar style govt, but you're right--it doesn't have to be a version of what we term a Democratic Republic.

I have seen a lot of blue thumbs stuck up in the air in victory, over the ability to vote....
They do not do this in secrecy....anyone can see the proof that they have voted, not like we Americans who cast a ballot and return, unmarked, to our daily lives.
They know that they are risking their lives by voting, yet they still do it in droves....
Ask yourself if you would risk your life to vote....and then tell me whether they want a democracy or not.
Oh,...I think RKO may be a wee ticked!

Remember, end of the 1st gulf war the US encouraged Shiites to rise up, they did, we left, saddam butchered 10,000s of them. They want freedom but we have to earn their trust this time around. We can not leave until the job is done. Iraqis want freedom they have shown us several times.

Your right, the "leaders" and bullies (you know the ones bombing women in children) want the rest of the country to live in fear under a dictatorship.
I am sure the common person wants peace and Democracy, however standing up to the bullies gets a person killed in Iraq.

They have said that they do and taken all the necessary steps to fulfill that goal.
It is their neighbors who are so opposed to democracy.
They know full well that it is catching and also, that the desire for it transcends borders.
