They should teach students, how to survive in the real world, and the life lessons, instead of those stupid crap, that kids don't care about, who cares about what country was there in the 19th century, its over now, how to do the expression, (some stupid math problem) who f*ckin cares about that. I think the school should start teaching them that. How would they survive in the real world?

LOL. And after you learn all these valuable life lessons, will you be seeking employment? If so, you may want to come back here and complain that your teachers never taught you to read, write and add because they spent all their time teaching you "real world" skills - whatever those are and however you think that could be taught.

Depending what your view of the real world is. If in the future, you want to work at McDonalds, then, no, you don't need to know history, science, (maybe math) etc. You might just need to know how to prevent someone from robbing you(which is a real life incident). But if you want to become a lawyer, doctor, etc, then school teaches you good study habits to survive in college, it also teaches self-discipline, and exercises the mind.

The "life lessons" are learned as you get older, "live and learn". These are things that can't be explained through words. The experience of losing your love, or arguing with your best friend, or getting a divorce is a lesson in itself. Let's say you never had a girlfriend/boyfriend before, and if people tell you about a love they lost, you still wouldn't understand if you haven't lived and love rather than never live the experience at all.

The reality is that teachers don't get a choice of curriculum. That is controlled by people outside the classroom. I'm not even sure who! The state, the school district, the school board all have some degree of influence. You are right about students needing some practical course about everyday math. How to budget their income, how to evaluate the pros and cons of purchases, tax preparation. Writing a resume, going for a job interview, opening your own bank account. Some of the information is real easy and could be covered in about 15 minutes, while other basics need more exploration in the classroom. Let's hear it for a Life Class on Practical Living. Why can't we graduate from high school knowing how to navigate the complexities of the everyday world.

They do teach real life stuff (like those math equations), you just don't have enough knowledge of what real life is to understand how that applies to your life.

Ever want to buy a house? Think you might be able to do a mortgage calculation to make that decision. Want to have carpet in your house? Think you might need to know how many square feet to buy?

Think you might want to understand some politics so you can be a useful contributor to society and vote? Might need to know about a little history for that one.

Think you might need to be able to read and interpret some technical instructions on your job or write a memo or two? Think that English class prepared you at all for that?

Bottom line - you nailed it, it's "crap that kids don't care about" but once you're an adult, adults do care about it. There are things you can't understand until you understand the lower level basic "crap".

Try this stupid math question: You have an outstanding mortgage on the house of $145,000. The real estate agent is going to want a 6% commission. There are going to be 3% closing costs on sale price to you but you're going to get a $4200 refund on prepaid insurance. How much do we sell the house for if we need to pull $35,000 equity. I know, kids don't need to know that "crap" but adults do and if you don't learn the basics, you can't learn this one.

It's the responsibility of your parents to teach you real life skills, not your teachers.
