You either believe in him...or you dont.
Simple as that.
Nothing more.

Why does everyone make such a big deal about it?

Why cant we agree to disagree?

I believe in God. You Dont.
OR
I dont believe in God. You Do.

why cant that be the end of it?

I also think Dr.Pepper is the nastiest soda in the world...But that is just my opinion...right?
You are going to say "YOUR SUCH A AWFUL HUMAN AND THAT SODA COMPANIES ARE GOING TO KILL YOU! YOUR AN IDIOT FOR NOT LIKEING DR. PEPPER!!!" are you?

No...I dont personally like something. No big deal. We disagree.

Question:
Why cant we agree to disagree?

Why do we debate anything at all? Because we refuse to believe that life is simply a process by which we repeat the mundane until death. Conflict is part of that denial. If we didn't hate and kill each other over religion, it would be skin color, tonality of voice or even beverage preferences. Conflict entertains and challenges people. Likewise, casting stones at those who don't agree with you feels great. On some level, it makes them feel better too. Now they have something to feel outraged about. Feeling outraged is infinitely better than feeling nothing.

1) When someone's religious, religion often becomes a central part of their life. If they run into an atheist/agnostic they wonder how it's even possible to live without God, where would they base their beliefs of off? Posing such a question is the basis for a lot of doubt and doubt like that can be scary. Theists will be afraid of the strange and unknown just like any other human being

If you're an atheist and happen to be confronted, as you often are, you're forced into a very sticky situation. Tempers rise, humans are human.

You simply can't draw a solid line between believing in God or not, as with many things in life, there is plenty of gray area. Agreeing to disagree is just too neat an option and with the question of God, it's just too closed. We all want answers we can't get, but will that stop us from trying?

2) As for Dr.Pepper...I actually haven't tried it o.o so I'm undecided.

Liking or disliking a taste is an aesthetic position, with relatively little effect in the world (unless you make things like soda). The existence of an entity is not an aesthetic question, it is an ontological question. Taken with the fact that 1) many claims are made about the consequences of not believing in the right deity, and 2) How much belief affects the lives of everyone, including the non-believer. For instance, if Abrahamic believers will give up all political influence, I personally will leave them alone. Until then...

For those that have a religion the stakes are incredibly high eternity versus oblivion or even worse hell.

The attitude of non believers is aggressive, angry and sometimes quite rude, but I think this may be cultural. unfortunately at the same time that we have a decline in religion there is also an increase in violent crime against children and the elderly as well as the rest of society, an increase in drugs and alcohol use and an increase in divorce rates. People bound to a religion probably believe there is a cause and effect going on. Is there a link?

To those of us who believe in God, faith cannot be merely a matter of opinion. It is - literally - a matter of (eternal) life or death. Thus, people who believe in God feel very strongly about it, and want others to believe in Him, too.

I absolutely agree with you about people who get worked up over something like Dr. Pepper. What difference does it make to me if you like (or dislike) Dr. Pepper? People tend to fly off the handle much too easily these days.

If anyone gets upset at you for not drinking Dr. Pepper, just smile and say, "Hey, look at it this way: if I don't drink Dr. Pepper, that leaves more for you!"

All through history, leaders used God as a tool to rule and manage people. When people believe in a set of moral rules they are much more manageable. The problem with believing in God is the believers - if there is only one true God - how come not everybody believes in him. If this one God was so powerful and mighty - how come he doesn't make everybody believe in him. That notion negates its oneness. The believers want the non believers to believe in this one God in order for their theory to be true. Usually the problem is with the monotheistic religions like - Judaism, Christianity and Islam and not the polytheistic ways like - Buddhism, Taoism etc.
In some countries - if you don't believe in the same God as the rulers - you have a big problem!!!
In America anybody can believe in what ever he wants to and with the freedom of speech we can argue and shout about it. So after all its not as bad as it was!!!

Because the goddies want to impose control on everyone. Remember about the Inquisition and the Thirty years War?

Isn't it really about what is it with people being intolerant of other people religious beliefs not to mention their beverage choices.

We can all agree to disagree, or disagree to agree.

I just don't want a Dr. Pepper.

Because we HAVE to be right even by imposing our opinions on others.
For most people having a different opinion -or taste- means you are an ennemy. The validation of their opinions makes them feel safe and a part of the community.
Safety wins over freedom. The root of all evil.
