why do people think just cuz the orientation is different the rules of the game change and you'd be interested in them or any random girl or girlfriend? I'm not a particularly picky person but I get offended when people flatter themselves a lil too much. Is it because they think we don't have any boundaries or morals? I really don't get it.

I hate it when people think that.

A lot of people think lesbians are that way because they "can't get a man". How lame. And then all the girls assume you like them just because you are gay.

One of my ex girlfriend's ex girlfriend whom I lived next to was outed at her school. Then this really unattractive girl kept saying she better not look at her because she thought it was disgusting. Then Kat, the lesbian, told her that she wouldn't want to look at her in a million years because she wasn't pretty at all or something.

Then the girl gets mad. So it's a lose-lose situation with stupid people. The don't want you looking at them but when you say you don't like them they get offended.

I've never personally had girls flatter themselves because of me because I'm not really out--it's none of their business to me, but if I did have a girlfriend I wouldn't hide it--but I know a lot of people who have that happen to them.

Moronic people is all.

For the same reason people automatically assume I hate and judge all gays because I'm a Christian. They're dead wrong, but that seems to be how it is, no matter what I say or do. And like you, sometimes I really feel frustrated by it.

People tend to look at others through the "filters" they've been raised with. They can only be assuming what they do because that was how they were taught to think....whether by prejudicial parents, critical friends, or intolerant segments of society. They're just like computers - programmed by someone else - and in this case, it's garbage in, so garbage out.

Don't worry about it too much. Stay true to the standards you want them to realize you have, apart from your sexuality, and you may just educate a bigot!

Because to them, we're already "breaking the rules"
We all live by standards, whoever thinks otherwise has no brain.

@jare: People with diseases DO have standards like anyone else. Just because my grandfather is diabetic doesn't mean he doesn't live by standards.

People make assumptions about people when they should find out more.

If they believe that homosexuality is sinful, and that homosexuals are abominations that live lives of rebellion against God...
How can "abominations in the sight of God" be Christians, pray, love God? How can the "cursed of God" have any principles?
Homophobic prejudice!
They don't bother to find out who we really are because of their irrational bias.

Because they usually don't know. They usually will assume instead of asking. They are to embarrassed to ask, but not to make assumptions. They fail to realize that we have tastes and standards just like they do.

yes... sadly... that IS what they think... one of the first things you get coming out as a gay guy is "oh... I know a guy who's gay too!... i should hook you two up!"... and it's always some old ,fat, bald, pimply, "slow" star trek fan who hasn't been out since 1975...

... sucks...

Why do people assume that having standards is so great?

2007-10-20 19:19:22 · answer #7 · answered by Anonymous · 0 1

People fear what they don't understand.

so some would rather be rude and ignorant instead of looking at something objectively...espicially when it goes against their own set of core beliefs
