You can use anything that is unique and repeatable -- it doesn't have to be legible, or even normal letters if you really don't want.

You can make any kind of a mark you want. Some people only put like a line, maybe a squiggly line, maybe an X. The older I get, the more it becomes a blob that no one could possibly read!

No , you can tell them that is the way you write, period,
And if you are signing something you have doubts about
Write above it UNDER DRESS or before it
