And, being the genious that I am, I threw the slip away. I deposited $280 (14 twenty dollar bills) but it said I deposited $140. I'm going back to the bank on Monday and try to explain that my mistake. I updated my bank book at the same time, so hopefully that will be okay. I'm kicking myself for throwing out the slip, as that would be the best proof.
Can anyone tell me what else I can do? Or is my $140 gone forever?

It won't matter where you put it and the bank will catch the error, however, call your branch on Monday and make certain the error was detected and is corrected.

Go to the bank or call them on Monday, but shouldn't end up being a problem. They'll find the discrepancy when they take the envelopes out of the ATM and open and verify them, and will correct the error. But until it's corrected, don't try to draw on the money - it won't show as being there.

The bank should catch this as they have to have every $ accounted for down to the last penny, so if they dont balance they will know plus when they go to enter your deposit they will see that its for the wrong amount and will probably try to notify you,but i would call first thing monday.

Don't worry. The bank has to open the deposit envelope to verify the deposit, and they will correct it. You can call monday am just to check on it to put you at ease, but dont worry! (I work at a bank )

They don't use what you put in as the only guide. They always check the deposit amount. But they also say don't deposit cash, in case you do what you did, and some low moral bank employee keeps it. You'd have no argument.

The bank will catch your mistake. But (of course) you should keep the paper reciept. I have done this and they have always caught and corrected it.
