If it does in fact ruin the series for you that is ridiculous. There is no "exposing" it to children because there is clearly nothing homosexual in the book, that would tell that he is gay, so it should be irrelevant. It isn't like the children are reading about gay behaviors, etc. And the fact that you think children shouldn't know that there are gay people in the world, is asinine as well. Hopefully, if anything kids will see that even someone they like, Dumbeldore, is gay, and that doesn't make him any different than anyone else in other regards...perhaps it will even make them more accepting and not immediately dislike something because a character, or person is gay.

I was surprised by it sure, but really I don't care. For everyone who is saying that she did it to sell more books, perhaps you have been living under a rock with your fingers in your ears, because she does not need helping selling her books. She's a billionaire for crying out loud, she made the character the way he is because that's how she saw him, not as a marketing ploy. If it was all about selling books, she would have revealed him as gay way earlier on, not 4 months after the release of the last book in the series.
And for people who are freaking out because their children are exposed to gay people, get over it, at no point in the book does Dumbledore identify as gay, and the only reason anyone knows is because she had to flat out tell us.
I think it's fine, it shouldn't change anything about Dumbledore in your minds. Unless you are shallow or bigoted but I can't help you there.

It never says in the book that Dumbledor is gay so how can kids be exposed to him being gay. Unless they watch the news wich is kinda unlikey. I personally feel that it shouldn't have been on the news the way it was. Word would have gotten spread around through the fans anyway. I understand why she did it. There was a whole bunch of gay people wanting her to make a gay character and so she did. I think that is a good move there. Making everyone happy. Also I do understand why it she did it on the news too. It was to being intrested back into the books. Anoughter good move I think. Since being gay is still kinda scandalis. Also I think she should have made Voldemort gay becase he came off that way to me. I like it the way it is. When I read the books over I can completly ingor taht Dumbledor is gay beucase it never says in the book. there's my two sence. and i hoep it makes sence.

Dumbledore being gay did not ruin the books in any way. It simply added more depth to his character. It showed why he found it so hard to defeat Grindelwald because he was in love with him. He's still the same. Even if J.K. Rowling didn't out him he would still be gay but no one would know it. Him being gay doesn't make him any different

It is a reflection of society, so why not? Good on HGR for having the guts to make her character gay.
Addendum correctional :-
Obviously I didn't read the book or I would have realised you meant the poor blessed actor not the character. How petty and stupid are you? and some of the answerers as well! (Can't call you a big-t or idi-t as I would get as violation probably but am well tempted so suffice it then to say I am straight I am also not in doubt of it therefore do not have to a act like a p-s he-d homophobic tw-t OK.)

I just found out about three minutes ago. Honestly, I'm not suprised. I'm not mad. I'm not happy. I love Harry Potter just as much as I did this morning. Some of my best friends are gay, and many of my friends perdicted a gay in HP, so I'm not really that shocked by it. My friends and I are known for making controversial predictions about this series, and we are quite often right, this was just another one of those times. Hey, if Dumbledore is gay, then he's gay. He has that right. Let's not forget, people, that this is a fictional character and one person is dictating his entire being. He's not really gay, because he's not really real!!!! Does it matter if he's gay when he's not real? He's not hurting anyone. Honestly, all the hype is ridiculous, it's not hurting anyone!!!!!!!

I think it's interesting that J.K. didn't tell us until after book seven came out. It makes absolutely no difference to me whether or not Dumbledore is gay because the character is a kind, wise, and helpful teacher. Sexual preference doesn't matter one bit. If you let one thing you didn't know or don't like ruin something how will you cope when you find out something you don't like about a family member or friend?

When i heard that this morning i thought it was unexpected, but then it made me realize that harry potter had to be an allegory on something in history and possibly today. It also made me feel strange that him and grindlewald probably used to be more than friends but... you know i can get over that. He's pretty cool n i have nothing against gay people, it just took me by surprise

I'm a kid and it doesn't affect me really. Anyways, she said it after I finished reading the last book. As long as she doesn't make him kiss any guy or anything, i'm good, because I wouldn't want to see that in a movie. I just found out about it today. She's doing a tour of the U.S. and she told the people in Carnegie Hall in New York!

What did you think? That there are no gay people in Harry Potter's world? Don't you know that about 1 in 10 people are gay?
