I'm black, 14 and love punk rock but because I'm black people are always making comments like,"why are you trying to act white" and assume that I should be into Rap and RnB - which I don't mind but I prefer rock.
I find it really annoying when people in my school make stupid jokes like, "She's not sure what coulor skin she is" and stuff like that.
Like the other day a girl in my class came up to me and said,
"Clarise, why do you like rock"
And I replied, "Dunno, cos I think its cool, y do you like hip hop"".
And she said "Everyone likes hip hop (which is a lie), and I swear you're supposed to like it too".
I knew she meant because I was black. She's white herself but I don't think she has to like rock or any other kind of her music because of her race!
I wasn't bothered for an argument so I just left it at that and walked away.
This is really starting to p*ss me of.
Has anyone else had the same experience.
Any advice other than ignore them cos that doesn't help.

I went through the same nonsense when I was your age, and believe it or not, I still do occasionally. Most of my critics were other black kids who accused me of not "acting black"...which is foolish because you don't have to "act" black if black is what you are! Some of these same kids would criticize rock music, yet they could name every popular rock band at that time, which of course meant they were listening to it themselves in private. Man, they were so insecure.
It makes no sense to me why people want to stereotype themselves while people of other races are stereotyping you already. Just ignore the ignorance and keep rockin Clarise.

Hip Hop is the satisfactory promoting style for the reason that white humans are making it they're the bulk in America. Some name it black track for the reason that It used to be created through black humans Its roots are discovered in west Africa the entire means as much as jazz Majority of Hip Hop artist at present are nonetheless black Majority of black humans are into Hip Hop (inform me if im incorrect) It even collaborates with R'N'B nower days that's a different style from the black tradition But thats lack of awareness its only a style now not a race style for the reason that calling it black track method its just for black all black concentrate to it and it sounds black that are both fake or dont make experience.

People can be very ignorant, can't they? You just keep on liking what you like and don't worry about what other people say. When someone has a dumb comment like that, just think to yourself, "Okay. You're stupid." and move on. Obviously, if they had any brains at all, they wouldn't think or say such stupid things. Just keep on being yourself.

Those people are just arrogant, not all black people like rap and not all white people are mettlers/rockers
People are always quick to judge someones taste in music by there looks.

there are people who follow the herd and those who dance to their own rhythm. I learned that music has no color, it is a system of mathmatics in its beat and rhythm.
Follow your rhythm and you will find you are your own person and oh what happiness and freedom that brings. I am also a person of color and have many more years of experience because I dared to be different.

Youre realizing how stupid people are, and believe me its only going to get worse. People are REALLY stupid. There is nothing you can do to change that. Just dont become one of them.

i'm black and i'm 12. i listen to country and rock...............and people make fun of me. just ignore it...........that's what i do and it works

continue listenin to wat u like and tell them to try it to and see how they like it if they dont like it than tell them to leave u alone and who cares wat color u r u dont have to listen to rap
