She never lies and she just said Dumbledore is gay to an entire press conference. It makes sense if you think about it but this is gonna not go well with religious groups and anti-homisexual people. This may have jepordized her position as one of the world's greatest writers.

Btw this is NOT a rumor.

And this is weird..

Dumbledore is actually the one character that held the entire plot and story together. Harry Potter was a tool to beat Lord Voldemort. And he's gay, a bit odd ain't it? And it makes sense to me! Dumbledore looks like he is 200 years old and he always talks about love being powerful, the most powerful thing ever, and the only person outside of his family and pupils was Grindewald, a man. He fell in love with him and killing him was a terrible thing for him. They're many pieces to this that could actually be brought together before now to prove this already.

I have done a little bit of reading up and she has never ever lied at a conference or anything about Harry Potter, why would she start now?

Where does it say he liked a woman?

lol well OK I remembered that after I asked this that Dumbledore didn't kill him and I had no idea of Dumbledore's age, let me refraise it: Dumbledore looks like he's 200 years old, nothing about his real age.

1. According to the story I read, she had told the writer of the screenplay for HBP that Dumbledore was gay because there was mention of a female love interest in the screenplay and she had to set them right. Having done that, she might as well have made it public, since it would have eventually come out anyway--she could control when and how it was done.

2. While I think it is a great series, JKR is not, as yet, a great writer, let alone one of the "greatest". In 30-40 years, she may be considered such, but we'll have to see what she does in the meantime.

3. Chronology in Harry Potter is always a tricky business, but I feel pretty certain that Dumbledore is not "200" years old. By my best estimate Dumbledore is about 105 years old. Here is how I came to that:

Harry is born in 1980 (Book Seven);
In CoS, he is 12, so we are in the 1992-3 school year;
It is after the first of the year, so it is 1993;
The chapter on the Diary states that Harry sees what happened Fifty years before, so 1943;
Dumbledore is in the prime of middle age by Harry's description of him, so he is likely to be no younger than 35 and no older that 60 at the outside.
Therefore, Dumbledore was born somewhere between 1880 and 1910 approximately, making him between 116 and 91 at death in 1996.

4. Dumbledore did not kill Grindelwald!! We know in Book Seven that Voldemort kills him while seeking the Elder Wand. Dumbledore's emotional conflict is around the role Grindelwald played in the death of his sister.

5. BTW, there is some inkling of this in DH, where Rita Skeeter talks about devoting a chapter in her book about Dumbledore to the Dumbledore/Harry relationship. This is not to say that there was anything improper--but that JKR did put out a hint.

Funny really, i asked exactly the same question earlier today,, But shortly found out it was because dumbledore loved grindleward! strange hey, Yeah it is as she didn't make it that obvious in the book, but quite a number of people knew it, i don't know if it was because the American version was written or altered slightly differently to the English version.
But anyway a directed what to make it obvious in an earlier film that he liked another women but JK Rowling states '' But he''s gay'' Well to be honest i didn't think these books designed for children got so in depth with orientation xD

The statement saying about a girl ''interested'' in dumbledore,, ((Link))
http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2007/10/19/2007-10-19_rowling_dubs_dumbledore_of_harry_potter_.html

I do think it''s strange though how he saids ''LOVE'' seems to be the answer to alot of things and now he is gay..I''m not saying it''s a problem or anything.. but when people say ''why does it matter'' weather his is gay or not,, were not sayig it's either good or bad, were discussing her book and thats exactly what she wants isn't it?
Well, we've got to keep the book alive somehow and how interesting it is to get a new piece of information.

No. She is not watching for extra exposure. She is not looking to initiate Christians. She was once requested a query in an interview and most effective responded it. In an interview, it mentioned that she wasn't anticipated the response of fanatics. She stated that Dumbledore is her man or woman and that she will be able to do anything she desires with him and that there've been lots of homosexual guys who've been very positive in lifestyles. (Not entirely unique:) She got here up with the proposal while writing the Half-Blood Prince and despatched a letter to the director mentioning that Dumbledore was once homosexual.

It doesn't say he liked a woman.

And i don't think she really cares.
They're her books.
If they were mine, i would tell. It doesn't matter.
As long as she gets to write,
what does it matter?

The books never mention Dumbledore's sexuality once,
it won't affect anything.
She's just an honest person and she thought that everyone should know.

Either:
A) it's a publicity stunt
B) she's trying to rile up the religious groups and/or fan fiction
C) she's trying to get the message of tolerance and anti-anti-homosexual people across
D) maybe she knows someone who is gay and wants to spread tolerance for that reason
E) she did it for some reason that shall remain a mystery to all but JK for eternity.

The religious groups were already hating, but she did rile up the anti-homosexual people. Though JK did do that, people will still read her books. They're fantastic books and that's all that matters to the majority of readers.

Many authors will compile a great amount of information about their characters to help them understand them better. Some of this information may never reach the light of day, but the author always knows.

I don't understand why this will jeapordize her position- in fact I think it makes it stronger for the very reason that you state. She was determined to write a strong gay male character- possibly one of he first in children's literature.

LOL....okay

I like JK Rowling a lot and I love Harry Potter books and I love Dumbledore. But if you think logically, JK Rowling said that because she wanted attention. She did not like the fact that the attention she was getting was fading away.

Hope I a not offending anyone.

She said it because she's an attention-seeking, miserable woman.

Her statement was irrelevant and quite insensitive on her part.

She has destroyed the entire HP series.

Her books have become the butts of many jokes now.

And for the record, if Dumbledore never acted on his "love" for Grindenwald, what makes him gay?

I think that that's awesome. it shouldn't jeporadize her rep or anything, if anything just bring it up. Really though it doesn't much matter that Dumbledore was gay. It just goes to show you how stupid being homophobic is. if people don't like Dumbledore being gay, well then that's their problem.

I guess that sales of her books are slow and she has to get more sales. It does not matter and it is ridiculous that she said this.
