Develop your natural talents - it will give you a legit reason to feel great about yourself.

Exercise regularly - endorphins are awesome.

Also, something that helped me was Martial Arts. I don't go around thinking I'm some kind of bad a**, but I don't feel intimidated by anyone anymore, which is cool.

Have you ever heard the Whitney Heuston song; "The Greatest Love Of All"? In it she sings about the importance of learning to love yourself. This is the key to self confidence. I'm not talking about vanity, or having a huge ego. What "learning to love yourself" means is to overlook the flaws that you see in the mirror (since no-one judges your looks as hard as you do anyway) and becoming your own best friend.
Everytime you look in the mirror you should smile at your reflection, ignore your negative self-talk (which we all seem to have), and reassure yourself that you are a good person.
Try it; it really turned my life around.
