'God Save the Queen' is the official anthem usually sung before football matches. However, because God Save the Queen is an anthem for the whole of the United Kingdom and not specifically English there is a move to go to Land of Hope and Glory, which was indeed sung at the first England match of the 2006 Six Nations.

The United Kingdom like the United States has one National United Anthem.
Being a Kingdom, at the present time without a King it is,'God Save the Queen'

You are right, those saying God Save The Queen, Land of hope and glory are not correct. Our national anthem is the British national anthem and England doesn`t have one.
The Wiz - just another Yank who doesn`t know the difference between Britain and England then.

England is NOT seperated from the UK... neither is Scotland , Wales or Northern Ireland.... where did you get that sh*t from? The National Anthem for all the UK is 'God save the queen'... the scottish song is only socially 'adopted' but not official. Any other 'anthem' is nonsense.

In the Commonwealth Games, England's anthem is "Land of Hope and Glory", sung to Elgar's music, (Pomp & Circumstance March No1).
You can't get better than that.

Because this is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
We have one anthem because we are one union, a United Kingdom (for 300 years).

well not every country in the UK has this as their national anthem, i like to think it is more english than british, althought alot of people do think 'jerusalem' should be the national anthem! tis a quality song.
but as far as the national anthem is concerned, i belive that we should learn it in school, i never sung it but instead sung songs about god and jesus(boredom) and not everyone believes in god, but we are all ruled by the monarchy, and they dont think its neccessary to teach us this song. i only learnt it from a cd i bought for the euro '04 which had footy songs on, and the words on the sleeve! that to me is wrong!
