Ok Here's the deal: I can't take Nicorette losenges spray inhaler or patches. I simply don't smoke that much. I was on Chantix smoking dropped from 1/2 pack a day to 1 cigarette a day. I had to quit taking the Chantix because i was having this feeling of drunkedness. I don't drink. I am afraid to try Zyban or Wellbutrin because of the fact that Chantix supposedly is least likely to show side effects. Ok so today is my first day off the Chantix & that uncontrollable urge for a cigarette is back I wanted one with my coffee and the urge is still there now. I haven't given in & I won't, but the urge is overwhelming. I found a tea awhile back that I could drink that will help. Anybody got some other suggestions? Herbal or cold turkey tips I don't care it's all welcome. Thanks

The feeling of drunkedness was this: Dizziness staggering "Hangover" Headache. I literally could not walk without grabbing ahold of everything in sight & also I kept falling out of my chair. :(

the key to quitting an addiction (prescription or non) is replacing the nutrients washed out by the drug. In the case of nicotine it works much like some antidepressants with an effect of increased dopamine in the brain. When the dopamine falls...you need to smoke again. Same with antidepressants. Start yourself on Omega 3 fatty acids (at least 1000 mg per day- more if you feel you need it -this will control mood and help rebuild the brain). Also get yourself a good green supplement- flash dried minimally processed product containing wheat grass, carrot powder or barley grass. I would personaly recommend Power Barley formula from www.globaldnasolutions.com (that is the one i use personaly). Begin it slowly and work up to 1 tsp 3x a day. This will take a way all side effects and withdrawl effects- not only from smoking cessation but from any prescription drug. Which means that as you quit you will rebuild and get rid of the addiction ...no weight gain or crankyness ususally associated with quiting smoking.

Hi And firstly may I say well done for taking the positive step of posting on here.

Looking through the other responses I note that everyone is indicating that some kind of external remedy can be used to help and not one single person has addressed any internal methods. This is a shame because it indicates that the tobacco companies are still winning this battle. You see they want us to believe that cigarette addiction is one of the most difficult things to escape from because if we as a population believe this then we are less likely to be able to quit. Imagine if everyone was going round saying "cigarettes, sure, its easy, just stop smoking them and in three days you will be fine, by the way the withdrawal symptoms don’t really exist they are all in your mind". OK I know this sounds like crazy talk but that in a nutshell is the problem, everyone believes that it will be difficult to quit and that in part makes it difficult to quit.

Think about this - how do you say "Good morning, how are you" in Russian? What’s that? you don’t know - well why don’t you give it a try? Just keep saying words until it comes out right.

Of course that is ridiculous, unless you actually know how to say it, you will never be able to. You simply have to have someone tell you how and then it becomes easy. Well it is the same with smoking - most people (and I mean the vast majority as would be indicated by the majority of responses you received) don’t know how to quit - and why should they? No one has ever told them, they don’t run how to quit classes in school. Now don’t misunderstand me, I don’t mean to belittle all those well meaning people and I support any and all methods for quitting that others recommend - but I also believe that there is much more to it than can be achieved with a simple patch or pill.

Take another example - how do you catch a cold? If you asked 100 people this same question over 90% of them would suggest that ti has something to do with getting cold, not dressing correctly in the winter for example. This actually (and you can verify this with a doctor) is false. The only way of catching a cold is to breathe in the cold virus from another person - your body temperature has nothing to do with it. The reason we tend to get more colds in the winter is because we spend more time indoors, in close proximity to other people and therefore have more chance of spreading the virus! Now if this urban myth can live on for many years and still be active today, then doesn’t that suggest that a similar thing could be in operation for smoking? Especially when you consider that it is in the interests of big tobacco and big pharma to keep people believing that smoking is highly addictive and that you need pill sand patches to get off it.

I have a web site which goes in to a lot more detail about this and I offer help to people who want to quit on a one to one basis by email and IM. I do not charge for anything that I do so please take a look at my site and if you are interested drop me a line.

cheers

Chantix is working for me but if you don't smoke that much you'd be better off with the patch. There are 3 different levels that go by how much you smoke. Get the lowest dose, since you only smoke half a pack a day.

Hello Eeyore,

There is an all natural homeophatic product out there that could potentially help you. Please read my short story to find out more.

My wife smoked for over 10 years and when she found out that she was pregnant with our now newborn 3 months old daughter, she had promised me that if I found a good solution for quitting, she will try her best to kick the habit.

Well in my spare time I started researching online for quit smoking programs, meanwhile she was trying out patches and gums that you can buy at grocery stores and adventually they would not work for her.

After about a week of researching I had stumbled over a website that really impressed me on what they had to offer and that they actually say that they can almost guarantee your success, and most importantly that you can try it out for free.

The company has been around for over 20 years now and they have helped over a million smokers quit since and their kit is all natural and has everything that you possibly need to help you quit smoking, I thought WoW that is impressive.

I went ahead and ordered the free trial for my wife (only paid for shipping) and she has quit smoking in just two weeks and she doesn't want to hear about or smell another cigarette again in her life :)

Now it is up to you, but since my wife has quit, I was so happy about her success, so much so that I had built a small review site of the product to also help other people quit, you can check it out at; http://time2quitnow.com if you want to find out more.

P.S. They do ship to Canada.

Thanks for reading my short story, I hope it helps, good luck and stay healthy.
