I think that planners who regulate against
urban sprawl are Communists. The general populace who fall for this drivel are
libs. They are anti-property rights. That is bad for everyone when taken too far.
Descrying suburban sprawl was part of VP Al Gore's "re-invention of government".
I used to look at firstgov.gov at the maps of
"sprawl" from Roanoke Colony on to now.
If I did have the chance to travel by private car through Idaho, Montana and Washington, through huge expanses of untouched land, maybe I'd fall for some of that c**p too. I joke with my husband about, "we're running out of land" every time we get into a new, vast, virgin valley that could hold an entire city.
An additional thought: if you looked at the maps by county of the last two presidential elections, the blue counties are urban, the red are rural. I have heard it said that the blue are consumers; the red producers.

What does this question have to do with liberals?
In my area there were many fine productive farms producing crops that were needed in our area. Taxes have run those farmers out of business so they have had to sell . Urban sprawl has taken over. Now we have serious (lack of )water problems, we have to import our foods, transportation is nothing but a problem etc. etc.
I think that one type of industry has been forced out because of another type of industry. There are more things to think about in making a well balanced nation than money alone.
Quality of life means far more to me and living in an industrialized, dirty city is not good quality to me.
You are attempting to generalize which makes you incorrect from the start.

No -- liberals are those who support civil liberties, free market economy, and oppose discrimination and bigotry.
That has nothing to do with whether people like or dislike urban clutter -- and the fact is much of the sprawl is not an indication of economic growth -- because much of the sprawl is often empty as temporary economic shifts change the landscape.
Most anti-sprawl are pro-environment, for obvious reasons.

I think the anti-sprawl crowd are just jealous because they live in 1200 sq. foot 50-year old homes surrounded by urban blight and take a crowded bus to work, while they see those in the suburbs who make the same amount of money living in new homes twice as big, in nice neighborhoods with actual TREES and parks, and driving - dare we say it - CARS!!!

hmm... who's running away to the suburbs to escape the urban sprawl? not liberals?
conservatives don't seem to mind it until it comes into their neighborhood... then all of a sudden, magically they care...
as usual, "conservatives" become "liberals" as soon as a "liberal issue" affects them personally...

Bush is re-fashioning himself as an environmentalist and there is no way he's anti-capitalist or liberal, so you must be wrong.
