Read the book and saw the movie twice. Very scary. Outstanding performance by Jack Nicholson.

I find that books are always better because they are more descriptive whereas movies must cut material and rewrite for story and time constraints. In your question specific I find the book was definitely better then the original movie with Jack Nicholson, and the made for TV remake.

Hi!!! Both!!!! Stephen King is really a Master and Stanley Kubrick.....God! that movie....i have no words to describe that atmosphere...."that" Jack Nicholson was unique....

I do not like reading books so I will go with movie.

But books to tell more of what they cut out in movies

Generally, books are far better, but in this case, Jack Nicholson made the movie the better of the two.

definately the book. the movie takes away what you think the characters look like and how scary they are. the book will keep you more scared.

The book scared me so bad I couldn't finish it. The movie was almost comical it was so stupid.
