If you want to go the natural route start taking raw garlic three times a day. Split a clove into three pieces and chop well. Mix with a bit of olive oil (so it doesn't overpower you!) put on food or a cracker and eat.

During your cold you can take Echinacea tincture at your health food store. This has been shown in studies to lessen the length of the cold and the severity of the symptoms.

Vitamin C -- orange juice!

If you are into herbal teas a great one for sinus congestion:
Equal parts:

Elder Flower
Peppermint
Yarrow

Take about a Tbs total (1/3Tbs of each herb) and steep for 15 minutes in a mug of hot water. Cover. Drink fresh and as hot as possible 3 X per day. This will take the edge off and help you to sleep and after the first day you'll notice a big difference.

To clear out your sinuses some:
Boil water. Take a towel and Kleenex. Put the towel over your head and breathe the steam for a few minutes. This will loosen the congestion.

Hope you feel better soon!

Your best bets are lots of rest and plenty of fluids. Seriously. Chicken soup and tea ROCK too. Symptomatic treatments like Tylenol or Advil for pain or fever, Halls drops for a cough, Chloraseptic spray for a sore throat. Use a humidifer to thin the mucus that probably feels like it will never stop. They really do work the best. Cold medicine just pretty much condenses all of these into one thing.

The doctors I work for say if you treat a cold it lasts a week, if you ignore it, it goes away in seven days.

It can't be cured but the symptoms can be reduced by squeezing a lemon into a wine glass adding an equal quantity of whisky a teaspoon of sugar and topping up with boiling water. - Well it works for me.
