I lived in Omaha for over 10 years. I've been through a lot of tornado watches and warnings, and only one tornado that did minimal property damage and nobody was hurt. It is in 'Tornado Alley', so there are several thunderstorms during Spring and sometimes during Fall.

As far as floods, I've never been through one. If you live near a river during spring and there is an ice jam, there is a possibility that you could be flooded. There isn't a great deal of risk for flood unless you live in an area that is in danger of flooding, just like any other town.
