Only by his honor would they be able to keep him. Apposed to the first answer you got, not even a maxi prison would hold him. Don't forget, even Alcatraz Prison had an escape and he would be much better than that one prisoner that got away.

Much or all of what he does is only an illusion . Magicians study human behavior and responses to stimuli in order to 'magically' deflect your subconscious attention away from what they're up to . Similar to sales techniques but more with movement than with words .

Frankly if he goes to jail I believe some of those really bad guys are gonna come calling on him to be their 'girlfriend' . He fits the bill to a T .
Then again , he might get very good at stealing or gambling and make himself an icon rather than a target . But that's only if he gets lucky . And he could use those same techniques on the prison guards in an effort to escape . We shall have to wait and see !

Answer: The real magick as I've heard the story is...
He took advantage of her in International waters, or a Caribbean cruise then...weeks later filed charges in Washington State, that raided Copperfield's storage locker in Nevada.
Talk about the logistics, the illusions, and the oft chance to use the courts to STEAL from a performer.
Sounds kinda familiar up in here!
