Thats the general opinion. The key to a successful doctor-patient relationship is communication.Women ,probably ,feel more comfortable talking about their issues with other women.Besides, women doctors have real-life experience of whatever they're seeing in their (women)patients.

Well both know the facts and have learnt aout the same stuff but theres always the possibility that the women doctor may have experienced your problem for herself and therfore might be of more help? depends on the problem. You also have to feel comfortable with your doctor and not embaressed so its your choice realy wether you feel okay with male and female xx

To be completely honest, I don't know if I could trust a male Gynocologist. I know that might sound biased, but when was the last time a male had a uterus? He may know eveyrthing there is to know about anatomy, but he has never felt a cramp from a period or the sharp pain of ovulation. I've only ever gone to a female gyno, and I don't know if I could ever switch. All doctors are trained in the same ways, and I know I shouldn't feel this way, but I can't help but think that when it comes to knowing more about the female body, a female doctor would have the upper hand! Also, so much easier to talk to a woman about your period and cramps and sex than it is to talk to a man about.

If I give the politically correct answer - sure.
But guess what a man will never have, and has never had
-pms
-periods
-or a UTEROUS!! :-)
I tend to get better advice and more thorough treatment from a women, men doctors tend to think that things are "in our heads"
Case and point, I was complaining of severe cramping during pms etc, my doctor told me to take midol (male doctor btw) and I kept insisting I was in severe pain, went to see the FEMALE nurse practictioner - and guess what - I had cysts on my ovaries.
:-)

not necessarily. but if you don't feel comfortable with a man, than you can use a woman. My first gyn was a woman. But I have a man now, he delivered my babies...and I love him. She had a sort of dry personality. He is more laid back, cool and I can talk to him about everything!
he even told me that if i didnt want to have sex while i was pregnant to use him as an exuse..he also told me that he wouldnt let me go past my due date..my daughter would be born on or before..i would have been induced on the day if i hadnt had her just before.... I know thats ob...but still that was a man sympathizing with my needs....

There are good and bad doctors of both sexes. I personally prefer female gynecologists, only because they've dealt with a lot of it personally. I had a male doctor once doing an exam, and when I said, "Ow" he said, "That didn't hurt!" How the h*** did HE know what hurts???

I dont think they are necesarily better, but I prefer them for female problems. I think they are more aware of the female body and they can relate to how a pain feels. Plus I feel more comfortable talking to females about those kind of things.
