When a number of different forces act on an object, is the neft force necessarily in the same direction as one of the individual forces? why.

For instance, Force A (the engine) acts on a small airplance at 150mph, direction North.
Force B (the wind) acts on the plane at 50mph, direction East.
The net force will be between north and northeast.
