Hi,

My boyfriend and I were with friends and told them we like the name Eden for a little girl.

Our friend said we should call her (if the baby is a girl) Eden RAINBOW! I laughed out loud to this suggestion as find it a little silly!

However, my boyfriend really likes it - he feels it is a cute name ... Eden Rainbow

How can I get him to see it is not that great?!

Come on, what is your view on the name and do you have any suggestions on nice middle names for Eden and Emilie that I can persuade him with ... besides Grace!

I like Eden Skye but someone we know has had a girl called Skye and it bit too similar!

Thanks!

Lx

Frankly, I'd avoid pairing ANY two word names, especially the overly-cutesy nature-themed types. In other words, if you're fairly set on Eden, I'd make it a point NOT to use a middle name that is also a common word. Just tends to come across as childishly cutesy or unnecessarily risque (word name combos are quite common in the adult entertainment industry), rather than a name she will actually live with well into adulthood, if that makes sense.

As far as talking him out of "Eden Rainbow," I'd quickly point out that this sounds awkwardly similar to "eatin' rainbow" -- and really, why would you eat a rainbow? LOL -- or the children's show "Reading Rainbow," neither of which make the combo sound any more appealing in my mind.

If it helps, Iris and Enfys MEAN "rainbow" ... but then unless you're Welsh you likely aren't familiar with Enfys, and as appealing as Iris is, it's also a flower (so again, you have the immature/risque nature theme throughout the entire name).

No don't call her Eden Rainbow that is awful. Eden Elizabeth, or Eden Paige, or Eden Charlotte, but not Eden Rainbow

You are right, Rainbow would not be too cute, especially when the child starts going to school... But to have your cake and eat it too, try telling your boyfriend that Eden-Ray would be a better choice. (Ray-as in ray of sunshine, spell it any way you want) That will SOUND like his choice, so he feels like he still controls the name-giving, while giving you total latitude! ( Of course, that is if you LIKE the suggestion). Also, bear in mind that if the first name of a child has "X" syllables, (Eden has 2), the middle name should have less. (therefore look for a middle name with one syllable). It is indicated that people do it this way because it sounds better phonetically, to the ear. (How about Eden Rain?? it IS half of Rainbow... :))
Good luck choosing!!

Eden is a lovely name. Not too sure about Rainbow though! How about Yasmin, Nadia, Sophia, Jade, Amber, Shannon, Violet, Keira?

I just don't like a lot of these modern names. Like imagine in twenty years time or so she will be Aunty Eden Rainbow. Sounds a bit weird. Maybe it's just me but I like names with a bit of character and meaning behind them. When she or he is born though, one of the names that has been floating around in your head will just fit automatically.
