Depends on what is good on TV and when I am going to go to sleep. Have done it for many hours at a time excluding bathe room and eating.

If I am knitting with no distractions my hands usually start to complain within the 60-90 minute range. If I'm knitting while holding a conversation or watching tv I can go a couple of hours - usually not much more than 2 hours though.

I once Knitted for 5 hours on a road trip trying to finish the poncho i was making for my daughter. It had over 250 stitches to a row done on round needles. I then knitted another 5 hours on the trip back.

I usually use the "just one more row and I will stop" method and usually it doesn't work. Or I stop when I get tired of doing it. I usually can knit while watching TV so I'm constantly looking up or down. LOL.
Happy Knitting and Crocheting!

It depends on how complicated the pattern is. I also suffer from "one more row and thats it"... A simple stockinette st, I can go for about 3 hours before my hands hurt.

I have carpal tunnel and arthritis so it is very frustrating for me to put it down every 5 minutes or so and get some feeling back into my hands but I hope I never have to give it up totally. would be a shame. love it so.

When I run out of yarn. Picking it back up is an entirely different matter...I started a scarf last year that's still only half finished.
