Can you help me describe...?

What it would look like if a man in a renaissance day (you know, medieval ages) were going to a ball or something like that. You don't have to use necessarily official terms just a good description and pics are appreciated.

There would be a difference in fancy dress of the upper classes and the lower class peasant who wore very plain, earthy clothes.
