If I have intercourse the day before ovulation, does the sperm have time to reach the egg??????

I tested positive for LH surge at 10am on my Clear blue easy digital ovulation test.

And it says to have intercourse that day u see the first smiley face, and the day after. ovulation happens 12-36 hours after surge is detected, so if i tested positive at 10 AM, then I could very well ovulate at 10 pm tonight???

To answer your first question - yes. The sperm has plenty of time to reach the egg. It doesn't take long; and once the egg is released - it is viable (can be fertilized) for the next 12 - 24 hours. After that, an unfertilized egg dies, disintegrates, and cannot be fertilized. So it's possible to even get pregnant after one ovulates - but the window of opportunity is extremely small.

Ovulation generally happens within 12 - 48 hours after the LH surge. It's hard to pinpoint an exact hour when the surge happens, or when the egg will be released. But theoretically, if you had a positive ovulation predictor test at 10 am, then you could ovulate at 10 pm that night. HOWEVER - it's most likely that you won't ovulate until sometime the next morning. (Don't ask me for the source - I have no idea where to find it ... but some studies have shown most women ovulate in the early morning hours.)

If your husband is at work and you have your first positive ovulation test that morning while he's gone, you can wait until he gets home that evening. Even if you do ovulate between that time - the egg still has those 12 hours or so before it starts to lose viability.

Having sex 24 hours before the release of the egg is an excellent idea, since you dont know the exact time the egg is released and the sperm live much MUCH longer than the egg does.

Sperm last for days, the egg only about 24-36 hours.

Yes, do it now. : ) It's best to have sex at least once a day in your prime "fertility" period. That would be starting at about day 10 of your cycle (meaning 10 days after bleeding begins) through about day 17. The egg is only capable of being fertilized for about 24 hours so it is necessary to have the little swimmers waiting for it to ovulate. That would make conception more likely. However, if your cycle is more than a 28 day cycle then you would have to readjust the "prime time range."

first question the sperm has plenty of time to get to the egg if you do it the day before. sperm do live for 72 hrs so you could have had sex 3 days prior to ovualtion and still get pregnant.
if you have sex as close as possible to ovulation you are highly likely to have a boy. if you have LAST unpro sex 3 days prior to ovualtion you are likely to have a girl.

The Semen can last for several hours, or days depending on the woman and man, and can remain inactive til it 'senses' the ovum and wakes up from a sleep like state.

I think it might be possible. If they can live long enough. Female sperm live the longest, by the way.
