As Dumbledore tell Harry in the "At King's Cross Station" Chapter of DH, he was ready to go off with Grindelwald to find the Hallows after Aberforth returned to Hogwarts.

Aberforth argued with them, pointing out that Ariana would suffer by being dragged around the world, and that Dumbledore had a responsibility to care for her.

The argument ended up in a sorcerous fight, during which Ariana was hit by a curse, which killed her.

The result was that Grindelwald fled, Aberforth and Albus were estranged for many years, and Albus formed a deep disgust of his own motives and values, which shaped the rest of his life. One of his greatest fears was that it was a curse he himself cast that killed her.

While Aberforth, Dumbledore, and Grindelwald were fighting eachother, they were all throwing curses. When the fighting ceased, she was dead. Nobody knew who hit her with a curse.

If you are refering to before that, her condition, some Muggles were tormenting her- in a bit of an inappropriate way I'm guessing by lack of description in the book- and she was driven insane. She refused to use magic and it built up until it exploded. Re3member how Harry had burst of accidnetal magic when he was younge, when he was angry or mad? Well, it was like that, just a little more serious becuase as her power grew, she ever had the chance to learn to control it.

If you're asking about her fate, she died during a fight between Dumbledore, Grindelwald and Aberforth.

If you're asking what traumatised her as a child, this is one for the individual reader to decide. Some believe the Muggle boys merely beat her up for being a 'freak', and this was enough to leave her so shocked. Others think they sexually abused her (boys of this age are capable of these vile behaviours) and this is more likely to have left her so traumatised and her father so enraged.

I assume you're refering to what the Muggle boys did to her that left her so traumatized. I've wondered about that too. They obviously terrorized her, probably by threatening or hiting her (to try to force her to do magic). Maybe wizards should consider to have something Muggles have had for a long time: phychologists. Maybe their medicine is too focused on things that can be treated with magic (and trauma from muggle bullying probably can't). Good question!
