I am thinking of buying my first Ipod which will be a 2gb Ipod Nano. I don't know much about digital music. Whenever I have bought MP3 players before I have been confused by file formats and DRM. Does Ipod work with all file formats (i.e. can I download music from any music store, copy my CD collection onto it etc?) Thanks for any assistance. I would also appreciate any views from people who own a 2 gb Ipod Nano.

In other words, songs purchased from iTunes, songs ripped/imported from iTunes, any mp3 file, .wav files. iTunes can convert unprotected wma (windows media audio) files so that they can be played on your ipod. Music purchased from other providers such s Wal-mart, Windows Media, URGE, etc. are most likely .wma, you would need to burn an audio cd with those tracks then import them into iTunes to remove the DRM.

just about all music files work, including most DRM (meaning copy protected; Digital Rights Management) types. These are things such as protected MP3, protected WMA, or protected M4P files. The M4P files work on the ipod, protected WMAs don't, and i am not sure about protected MP3 files, if there even are such things...
Other files work for all ipods, such as M4A, MP3, WAV, and WMA.
