a) as the third side must be < the sum = 30 and > the difference=14

the third 1 shoulde less then the sum of the other 2 sides
8 < x< 22
because it can't be less then 8 or larger then 22

The answer is (a) because the last side can't be any longer than the sum of the other two sides.
However!, this side must be longer than the difference of the other two sides-i.e. 14.
