I want to make my computer as very secure as possible. What can I do to make it so?

Oh, and if you give me a whole list of nonsense that's very long, then I'm going to rank you down. I do not need to install a hundred's of things to make me secure, thank you very much.

I use XP SP2.

Here's how:

The best Anti-Virus (AV) Program out there is Windows Live OneCare. It's very easy to use, self-intuitive, and offers a ton of protection. It includes a 2-way secure firewall, anti-spyware, and a ton of things. It costs around $11 - $50 depending where you get it. Wholesale clubs like Sam's Club offer it real cheap. If you want to try a 90-day trial: http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/default.htm

Since you're on XP SP2, a FREE program you can use is Windows Defender. It's not as effective as a full AV program, but it does the simple job. Better than nothing. It's also relatively simple to use : http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

Check your current system (FREE) : http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm

Protection Scanner (FREE) : http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm

IE7 - best browser out there. Very secure. Includes a phishing filter, pop-up blocker, VeriSign URL checker, etc. (FREE) : http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx

IE7 Pro - offers more to IE7, like Tab History, adBlocker, inline spell check, etc. All the add-ons you need in one package. Safe and FREE: http://ie7pro.com/

Most of these things are made by Microsoft, and is guaranteed to work well with Windows XP SP2.

Also, many of these things are FREE. And even the OneCare program can cost relatively low.

All these things will make you very secure, as they have for me and my friends.

I would use avg anti virus with zonealarm firewall and both ad-aware and windows defender for spyware. And on top of that use a router to kind of make you invinisible to the outside world.

As well as AVG antivirus and AVG antispyware, I would have Comodo firewall and McAfee site advisor so that you know which sites are safe and which are not and Threatfire which warns you if anything strange is happening to your computer - all free from www.download.com.

Safest way? Never go on the internet, don't even connect it to the internet.
