I'm writing an essay on this movie and another book. I have to discuss how in the movie GMV, how the American people still supported the war as it was set in 1965, as opposed to the book, set in 1969, when the war was not as favorable to Americans.

Actually Vietnam protests started in small numbers as early as 1963. By 1969 the protests grew to a crescendo of protests.

I think in 1965 the American public still supported their troops, although there was growing uneasiness about the numbers of young men being killed there.

By 1969 many of Americans started to even detest the soldiers for obeying their transfer to Vietnam and would disrespect any soldier, even spitting on them.
