Why did that letter get bought for $2.1 million? I read the letter...all it said was that the democratic senators disagree with what Limbaugh said about soldiers who oppose the war. It didn't "smear" Rush at all. The worst it said was that Rush made "outraegous remarks." Isn't that what he does every day on his radio show?

I hope the money truly goes to charity. And I wonder if the bidder will really fork up $2 million. From what I saw of the history of that bidder, he/she bought mostly knick-knacks from ebay previously.

But why did Rush make such a big deal? Is he suprised that democratic senators don't like the things he says? I get tired of Rush's show, personally. He never says anything new. It's all "The democrats suck...The media sucks...Liberals are the enemies...bla bla bla"

Hahaha,

It was the ridiculous democratic senators that made a big deal out of what Rush said. If you or I had said anything like 'the troops in Iraq are phony', no one would care! Why, because we have freedom of speech.

Instead of asking why Rush made a big deal of it, ask why 40 democratic senators actually wasted time and money (our tax dollars) complaining and writing a letter to Rush.

Rush just stuck it in the democrats face that he doesn't hate the troops. I can't stand Rush nor most republicans. I do not approve of the war. But then again, this congress is pathetic. Ted Copple said that if this is what our congress actually spends their time on, America is in deeper trouble than originally thought.

Limbaugh the addict was called out on his defaming of the troops, if anyone other than a republican had made the remarks they would have been condemned from the start. All the letter did was ask that Clear Channel publicly condemn his remarks and ask for an apology for the troops. They did not threaten his right to free speech. Two of the seven people he directly called "phony soldiers" are now dead... which only adds insult to injury.
Limbaugh is a bitter old loud mouth nobody with nothing relevant to say so he has to make inflammatory statements to keep his ratings up.

All bidders over $800K were pre-qualified, plus the final bidder is a well-known philanthropist and has donated to many charities...so I doubt that she usually does her shopping on eBay.

Rush has been on the board of directors to this particular Marine charity for years...and has donated millions of his own money over the years to it...on top of the 2.1 million of his own funds that he is matching as a result of this auction.

The reason this letter is important is that 41 Congressmen chose to OFFICIALLY call for the sanctioning of a private citizen exercising his right of free speech on the Senate floor. As if that wasn't bad enough, the sanctions were based on lies...lies that they KNEW to be lies. Such overt abuse of power is a historic moment in our history, and Rush's shoving it back in their collective faces, makes the whole auction particularly sweet.

The letter brought in $2.1 million because it is symbolic of the current "do nothing more than act like undisciplined 5-year-olds" in the legislature. It's a symbol of them intentionally lying about a PUBLIC figure (sorry, Rush is NOT a "private" citizen in that regard) for disagreeing with "Their Holy Majesty" - those who hold power. These sleazy politicians knew for a fact that the "phony soldiers" comment was about Jesse MacBeth and the other sleazeballs who preceded him in lying about their military experience. If you've ever read a newspaper, you should know there were plenty of "fakes" who were "outed" after gaining fame for their phony "admissions of ware atrocities" while hanging around Cindy Sheehan in the early days of her rise to stardom. Articles about MacBeth were on EVERY news website two days before Limbaugh made his comment, and yes, ALL headlines included the term "Phony Soldier."

So why the outrage from Limbaugh? Because it's a fact that a large number of people don't read newspapers, don't know the score, don't know the history of the "phonies", don't know anything about politics, don't know what sleazy politicians are capable of, don't think for themselves ... but people are still perfectly willing to believe any ridiculous story that is spoon-fed to them by our elected officials and their supporters in the media. Anyone who has listened to Limbaugh without the express intent of wanting to hate him in advance knows that he has the utmost respect for every member of the military whether they agree with him or not.

I'm outraged too by people who are too stupid or lazy to research relevant issues. I'm outraged that anybody could be so idiotic as to make up a claim like the post above mine stating "2 of 7 people he called phony are now dead." That's a perfect example of something that never happened other than in the mind of someone completely uninformed. Prove me wrong - state 1 of 7 people mentioned other than Jesse MacBeth - you completely made that up. Just another example of how someone gets their news from "my friend's, cousin's babysitter's nephew." Or the legislature, or our agenda-driven media. (Give me one name victorius_dismay... just ONE name, please, heck, at least make up something!)

And, yes, the highest bidder will fork up the $2 mill because it was a genuine bid from a genuine, qualified person / foundation / bidder.

Don't forget Limbaugh matched it with his own $2 mill while the sleazeballs who signed the letter have forked up ZERO DOLLARS. Who supports what?????

If it were Trent Lot and a bunch of Republicans who had written a letter of condemnation to the employer of a private Democrat citizen, over that citizen having exercised his/her right to say whatever the ___ they wanted to, I guarantee you, it would be on every network/cable news outlet 24/7.

It's not just the letter. It's the pompous, arrogant speech made on the Senate floor by the Senate Leader.

If he and the rest of his loser gang were doing their ____ jobs, instead of trying to screw everyone else around them, we might make some progress in this ____ Country.

Rush is going to match the money that was raised by the auction of the letter,.....he has challenged the 41 Democrats to do the same,.....do you think the 41 will match the money??,.....if the 41 did, that sure would help with the Charity, would it not??,.....

It caught the attention of people because it was another way of showing how truly outrageous our senators are. Now for history, we have a letter showing how the liberals are earning their money paid for by American tax money. We should boot the lot of them out of office and start from square one.
