Six Black Boys are accused of beating up one White Boy in a town where, if you are black, the law treats you very severely, but if you are white, your misdeeds are treated like pranks. It is a town still living like the Civil Rights Movement never happened, that got caught, but unfortunately there are hundreds of communtieis just like that around the USA.
White boys threatened a lynching, they got off easy, with a few days of lecturing them.
White boys pointed shot gun at blacks, they were not charged. The blacks wrestled the gun away from the guy who was threatening death ... THEY got charged with assault (seizing the gun by force) and theft (thaking the gun from the guy who was threatening to kill them).
Black parents went to the school board to complain. The school board refused to listen to them.
Yes, if the six can be found guilty of assault, they should be punished ... but 20 years in prison, for assaulting a white boy who did worse to them, and was never charged?

The Jena 6 took place in louisiana and it's 6 african american people who beat up a caucasion guy.
The reason why it's such a big story is because the justice system there is a lot more strict on african americans than caucasions.....for example those six were going to get 30 years in prison if they were found to be guilty but a few days ago some white kids placed a noose around a tree and they are not in custody........Basically there is an unequal system of justice in the city and a high degree of racism.

Its a little sketchy, I've heard and read different stories. It stems from a situation that happened last fall involving nooses being hung from a tree that was consider a "whites" only tree. Racial tension picked up there were some altercations on both racial sides (white and black). Finally, it ended when this 6 kids beat up a white kid, who I think was involved in a early incident. They were charged as adults for attempted murder, and I think conspiracy to commit murder and some other charges. One of the guys has been in jail for almost a year. This is just a summary of the events. You really have to read for yourself to find out all the details.

Simply do a google search on the Jena 6 and you will get many, many different sites with information. However, if you are going to ask a similar question, please do so in the news section for current events, this section is for history.
