I have a 1200 sq. ft house with vaulted ceilings and I need to remove the acoustic ceiling, whats the easiest way? the house is fully furnished. If I hire someone to do it what would be a resonable amount to pay?

I believe it has to be scraped off. An extension pole with a sharp edged putty knife should do it.

To hire someone depends on how much you have them remove at one time.

Try it & if you can't get the hang of it then call in a pro. or call home depot or Lowes they should be able to give some tips

Hi.
I have a good Friend who paints for a Living. AN He does it one of two ways. Because of dust furniture got to go.
Then lay plastic on floor an let it go up the wall about a foot an use painters tape to hold it there.
He has a big shop vac that's got a large open head with a 1ft. wide plastic putty knife , so as he pushes the putty knife along the vac catches most of the dust.
Or same thing for you, scrape with putty knife easy Theo, an let it hit on plastic an roll-up an dispose of it. Lots of dust, so be real sure you turn off A/C or HEATING unit. Damage to filters an clog up Coils on A/C UNIT,plus fill duct work . This job needs to be done with Windows OPEN if possible...
Now, what $$$ you ask.??? That depend on if day labor, local Contractor an Licensed or not. Just ball park, if it was may remodeling company an the Vaulted ceiling would be about $150.00 per. Room diff. price on diff.size. Day labor about 50 to 75 -2- men .. most contratcors 150 to 300 per.room .
O, by the way, take lights down or you,ll never get the dust out, an when a/c or heat comes on new dust ever where.

Hope this Helps,
Good Luck!!!
MIKE

I did mine, I had just unfder 1000sq ft to do, get a bug sprayer fill it with water and spray  5  to 7 ft around you then use a scraper( big putty knife ) and a shopvac 0r a big dust pan to collect it when it falls, there reaklly is no easy way, it is very dusty because after u scrape you will have to go through and finish with sanding it and there in itself is the messy part. It gets everywere. GOOD LUCK. p.s   it took 3 guys and two days  10hrs the first and 12 the second!

Popcorn finish is not acoustic. It is merely a material sprayed onto the drywall. It can be removed by spraying with water and scraping. Really messy so get out the dropcloths. Sorry I can't quote a price due to differing labor rates in different areas.

There is a product that you can purchase and mix with water and will help with this messy job. The problem is you don't want to go cheap and get a bad job because the you have to patch gouges and scrape marks. Get a couple of estimates and ask for a price to bring it to a finshed product including being painted.
